Ankeny, Iowa (May 9, 2008) – Friday night, May 9th was a special night for the Kaplan – Sather family as cousins Austin Kaplan and Kevin Sather both won their feature events, competing in the IMCA / Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division. In addition to their feature winning pay, Kaplan and Sather will both receive a $100 “Award Certificate” from IMCA Northern SportMod Title Sponsor, Karl Chevrolet.
On Friday night, Kaplan earned his feature win and a trip to victory lane on the famed half mile at the Iowa State Fair Speedway. Competing against twenty plus other IMCA SportMod drivers, Kaplan, racing his Victory Chassis / Karl Chevrolet GM Performance Parts 602 Crate Engine powered SportMod, bested Rick Gladson and the other SportMod competitors, winning his first feature at the Fairgrounds Speedway for the 2008 season.
On the same night, at the Marshalltown Speedway, Sather won his first feature event of the 2008 season on the high banked, 1/4 mile Speedway located on the Central Iowa Fairgrounds. Sather was racing his Karl Chevrolet GM Performance Parts 602 Crate Engine powered / Victory Chassis SportMod. Twenty six IMCA SportMods were on hand and when the checker flag fell, Sather lead Luke Wanninger and the balance of the IMCA SportMod field across the finish line.
Kaplan and Sather have now added their names to the list of drivers earning 2008 feature event wins in IMCA, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod competition utilizing the GM Performance Parts 602 Crate Engine. Other wins have come from Kent Croskey, Brett Moffitt, Chris Abelson, Brett Meyer, Chris Wright and Luke Wanninger. The GM Performance Parts 602 crate engine continues to provide the necessary power and reliability to take championship caliber drivers to victory lane.
