Train Starts Rolling Again For JR Stewart
This past weekend JR Stewart and the Hammons Motorsports team had a chance at two nights of racing for the first time this year. Once again though it didn’t happen as Mother Nature rained down on the parade Friday but the team got a nice present for the car owner Saturday.
While there is not much to say about Friday because of rain the team did make it out for hot laps and the car was very fast against the lighter more powerful 410’s that the 6s was set to compete against. O well, why don’t we just move to Saturday.
Going to Waynesfield Motorsports Parks has some he advantages, one, it’s thirty minutes from the house and two, well, it’s a tacky and fast track all night long that allows JR to race hard and have some fun. Lining up fifth in the third heat he looked as if he was shot out of a cannon and had second place firmly in his grasp by turn one of the first lap. For the next ten laps he hounded Dwain Leiber using every portion of the track to find the best line there was. On the final lap he finally found it but could only get beside “Weiner” at the checkered flag. Second place is where he finished.
With the A-Main line-up set the Hammons Motorsports entry would slot in seventh. With the guys giving JR the set-up he needed he immediately began his charge towards the front. Using the top to middle portions of the track he was picking off cars at will until he eventually moved into second place catching race leader Darren Long. After having a little trouble negotiating heavy lapped traffic and then battling Luke Hall for the runner-up position JR firmly grabbed a hold of second place until the black and white flag.
JR Stewart and the Hammons Motorsports crew would like to congratulate Ben Rutan on his ASCS SOD win the past Saturday at Thunderbird Race Park!
