Another Runner-Up Finish for Nick Mulheim and Crew!
Even with a week off from competition Nick Mulheim and crew were able to keep the momentum of 2008 going forward with another second place finish of the new season.
Starting third in his heat race Nick followed the pole sitter into turn one and by the end of the first lap he was sitting comfortably in second place. With three laps to go the 38m grabbed the lead but it was short lived as the leader moved back around him. Keeping pace Nick waited until the last lap when the leader was just a little too loose coming off of two and was able to get beside him through three and four. Coming to the checkered flag the Mulheim Motorsports entry nosed ahead taking the victory.
This nights events would see the team compete in a dash where the red, white, and blue 38m would start in third once again. Wanting to try something different the team put an experimental set-up underneath the car to see how it would react. Following the leader at the drop of the green flag just like before the car was good but not as great as the heat race. Nick could keep pace with the leader but wasn’t able to pass him handing him a second place finish in the five lap affair.
With the feature ready to push off the Mulheim Motorsports entry would now line up in seventh. Like before as soon as the green flag waived he was able to moved forward holding on to sixth right away. For the next couple of laps Nick settled in as the field settled down. Once this happened first place is where he set his sights. By the tenth circulation he was in third and with help from a few timely cautions he was second around lap 16, four to five lengths back from the leader Jason Dolick. With another couple of laps Nick had caught him and was ready to make the pass but lapped traffic was there so he held back for another charge. This however was not to be as the 12 negotiated traffic perfectly and Nick once again came home in second place.
