Mother Nature Wins out again at Virginia Motor Speedway
Jamaica, VA – Steady overnight rains, continued showers and a forecast for more of the same have forced officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway to cancel Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Night activities for Friday, May 16th.
“With all the rain we received overnight and the continued rain this morning the grounds are just soaked, we hate to do it but we are forced to cancel tonight’s activities. Hopefully we will get out of this wet and rainy weather pattern and get back to some racing,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer.
With the rainout Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will now turn its attention to the first ever appearance by the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Cars to the State of Virginia and to the Speedway Saturday, May 24th for the Armed Forces Appreciation 30 presented by Thurston Spring Service, Inc.
Joining the World of Outlaws for this historic event will be the tracks Victory Lap Late Model division.
Competitor gates for Saturday, May 24th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:15pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday, May 24th: Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Cars (30 Laps) and Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps). Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Cars will run a complete sprint car format. The Victory Lap Late Models will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features.
Advance sale tickets for the inaugural visit of the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series to Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA on Saturday May 24, 2008 are currently on sale Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am and 4pm by coming by the Speedway or calling (804) 758-1867.
Reserved seating will be in the new Paul Sawyer Tower only and features executive style seating with armrests and seat backs. Reserved seats, regardless of age, are $40.
General admission tickets for adults are $35; Senior’s (60+) are $32, military $32, Students 13 – 17 are $25, children 7 – 12 are $15 and children 6 and under are free with a paying adult.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
