St. Catharines, ONT…BRP CanAm Late Model Series race teams are preparing for a double-header racing weekend to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday.
On Sunday May 25th the Series will compete at Little Valley Speedway. On Memorial Day (Monday May 26) the Series will be hosted by Vern Wasson and his team at the Woodhull Raceway.
The two day double-header will present a real challenge for the race teams as they compete first at the longest track and then 24 hours later the shortest track of all the tracks where the Series is scheduled in 2008.
Long and short is only a start at the contrast that the race teams must adjust for. Little Valley Speedway is listed as a one-half mile. Woodhull is listed as a quarter mile. Both statistics are, no doubt, correct, but looking at the tracks it is hard to believe that the difference is only a quarter of a mile. Both tracks are considered “paper clips” with long straights and tight turns. LVS is flat with walls all around. Woodhull is banked on both the turns and straights with only a front straight wall. The only similarity is that both tracks are clay, but even the characteristics of the clay are different.
Little Valley Speedway (LVS) was the site of the very first BRP CanAm Series event – July 2, 2003. Since then LVS has hosted five events, the most recent in September 2005. Woodhull Raceway hosted its first BRP CanAm Series event in September 2004 and has been a part of the Series annually since.
