GOSHEN, NY-- Higbie Races From 15th To Top Five Finish At Orange County
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

Slate Hill, New York Modified talent Jerry Higbie drove his Shaver owned signature numbered 47 Big Block Modified to a top five finish last Saturday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway. Higbie, who started 15th in the 26-car starting field, felt he may have waited a bit too long to get started to make a bid to finish higher, but nevertheless was satisfied with the overall performance of the race car. Brett Hearn, the many time champion at the Orange County facility, recorded his 169th win at the event. Chris Schulz, the early leader of the feature event was second, David Van Horn was third, young Michael Storms continues to impress with a fine run from 19th to fourth and Higbie completed the top five finishers.

Higbie originally was looking at a three night weekend of racing competition. With Accord once again falling victim to the weather, Higbie did his racing at Ornage County on Saturday night and made the trip to Utica Rome on Sunday for the Victoria 200. Taking the family owned numbered 97 to Utica Rome was the plan and it was hoped the Big Block powered machine would be the way to go for the event. Higbie started his heat race in eighth place and with only two cars qualifiying for the dance out of the heats, Higbie couldn't make it through the field to qualify. The same could be said for the consolation as Higbie was having some problems with the transmission in his Mid City Transit sponsored machine and failed to qualify for the main event. While Higbie was disappointed with the outcome of the event, he also felt he learned a bit as well for many of the cars racing at Utica Rome were small block cars and they were the quick ticket around the slicked up race track. Bobby Varin was the first Big Block across the line at Utica Rome with a 6th place finish but by his own admittance could not go to the top of the raceway with his race car.

With both Accord and Orange County returning to action this week, Higbie is hoping for a banner weekend as he will have three opportunities to go racing again. His regular shows will be the aforementioned racetracks and Higbie will have an additional opportunity to shine on Sunday Night, May 18th when the OCFS 358 Modifieds share the bill with the touring stars of the World of Outlaws Sprint car Divisions. Higbie will once again be at the controls of the Affordable Transmissions owned number 17 small block Modified for the early evening show.

Higbie's aggressive 2008 racing schedule will find him in the thick of the action as he prepares for his runs at the Accord Speedway and Orange County Fair Speedway Championships this year. He will also be challenging for the ROC title. For the Accord and ROC events, Higbie will race his signature numbered 97 cars and for his assault on OCFS and select WRG Series Races, Higbie will once again strap himself into the Team Shaver numbered 47 equipment as the Shaver Team will have two Big Block cars for Higbie to steer. Sponsorship for the Teams comes from a great group of loyal sponsors who have supported Higbie throughout his successful racing career. Mid-City Transit, Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing and BadaBing Pizza have all lent their support to the 97 cars, and Beaverkill Trout Hatchery, Superior Building Supply and Woodburne Lawn & Garden lend their support to the Shaver Team. In addition to his Big Block rides, Higbie will be slipping behind the belts of the Affordable Transmission numbered 17 for a run at the 358 Small Block title at OCFS.

Jerry Higbie Racing would like to thank the entire racing community for their support and well wishes as the team prepares for a great season in racing this year.
