Pierre Dagenais wins the 50 laps Syracuse Qualifier at Edelweiss Speedway



Cantley, PQ- It was opening night at Edelweiss Speedway as they were presenting a 50-lap feature race for the modifieds, the winner would get a spot good at Syracuse. A complete race program for the other classes was also on the schedule. The weather was really good and track conditions were superb.



A total of 16 cars took the lead in the 50-lap feature race as Brian McDonald took the lead as caution came out for an accident on the third lap. On the restart, Mcdonald kept his lead over Dagenais and Laurent Ladouceur. Dagenais was now on the back bumper of McDonald. Both cars got into traffic on lap 14 and they were still battling for the lead. A second caution came out on lap 19 when Marc Therrien slowed down. McDonald had the advantage on Dagenais when the green came back as Ladouceur was still third. Pierre Dagenais took the lead in turn 2 when him and Mcdonald got caught up with a lap car. Nicolas Vaillant slowed in the backstretch and he brought the caution on lap 30. Dagenais got a commanding lead when the green flew back, Joel Doiron jumped to third with good move on this same restart. The 124 machine caught some traffic rather early and Ladouceur slowed down on lap 40 and the yellow came out. Dagenais manage to stay in front and again took a good lead over McDonald. Ladouceur slowed on the backstretch and the caution came back on lap 49. Dagenais led the last lap to win his first feature of the year and got the Syracuse Qualifier. Brian McDonald finished second followed by Joel Doiron, Eric Gauvreau and Bobby Herrington completed the top 5. Philippe Landry and Brian McDonald won the heats



Joey Ladouceur took the lead in the 20 lap feature race in the Pro-Stock feature and lead all the laps over Denis Gauvreau, Stéphane Lebrun finished third, Ghyslain Valade fourth and Alain Proulx fifth. Gauvreau had won the heat



Last year champion Bruno Boivin, grabbed the lead in the 15-lap feature for Semi-Pro when the caution came out on lap 4 for Brian Rochon. On the restart, Boivin stayed in front with Guy Regimbald in second but Marc Lalonde passed him on lap 5. Boivin took a good lead when Stéphane Carrière stopped in turn 2 on lap 10. When the green was back on the field, Boivin was still the leader with now Nico Leblanc in second. Boivin led the last few laps to win his first feature of the year followed Nico Leblanc and Alexandre Gagnon. Boivin and Eric Varin won the qualifications.



Dean Pronovost took the lead in the first Mod-Lite feature race in the history at Edelweiss and he was followed by his son Patrick. At the halfway point, Dean Pronovost had a comfortable lead over the field. He completely dominated the featured and captured his first feature of his career. Pronovost had a perfect night as he was the winner in the heat.



Martin Bernard dominated the 12-lap 4 cylinders race and won his first feature of the year. Martin Lagacé finished second and Gabriel Mercier completed the top 3. Bernard also had a perfect night with a win the heat race.
