SPRING RAINS SOAK BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY’S MAY 17th COLLEGE NIGHT
By Michael Wisniewski
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (May 18, 2008) - Spring 2008 has been unkind to Bridgeport Speedway. The latter part of this past week saw additional rain that persisted into late Friday night. On Saturday May 17, the Bridgeport Speedway track crew worked diligently and tirelessly to get the track in shape for General Floor’s College Night featuring a Smashmasters Demolition Derby. Unfortunately, the latest precipitation created a very soggy racetrack. Following a meeting among officials and drivers, Bridgeport Speedway management cancelled the program due to the soggy track conditions by citing the importance of driver’s safety and integrity of racing equipment. As an appreciation for the race teams, which did travel to Bridgeport Speedway on May 17, it was announced that those drivers would receive fifty competition points added to their 2008 point total.
“Starlit Saturday” night racing will resume on Saturday, May 24 at 6:30 PM with a very special Memorial Day weekend race program featuring twin twenty lap features for the Big Block Modifieds. Also, the URC Sprints return to the ultra fast 5/8th mile dirt oval for their second appearance of 2008. Plus, 358 Sportsman and GM Sportsman will be in competition. General Admission for this super holiday show is priced at $22 for adults. As always, kids 12 and under will be admitted free to the grandstand. General Admission wristband holders from the cancelled May 17 show will be charged $6 for this special event upon return of their unused wristband. Unused May 17 wristbands may also be redeemed towards purchasing General Admission for events scheduled for May 31 or June 7.
Billed ‘The Fastest Dirt Track in the East’, Bridgeport Speedway is a banked 5/8th mile dirt oval, featuring a dirt 1/4 mile oval embedded in the center, and is located in Southern New Jersey -- just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at exit 14 off of I-295.
