Woodhull Raceway forced to cancel for third time in four weeks

(Woodhull, NY) For the third time in 2008 Woodhull Raceway was forced to cancel due to rain. A persistent late afternoon rain storm enveloped the region forcing track owner, Vern Wasson to pull the plug, but not until after an extensive delay.

“With over 140 cars in the pit area including a full contingent of Patriot Sprints, may of which had made 6 hour or longer tows to get here we had to try and wait out the storm, stated Wasson. We kept watching weather radar and there was really no hope of the storm passing thru in time for us to get the track worked in and still have the show completed in a timely manner.”

With that it sets up a huge night of action next Saturday at Woodhull as the Patriot Sprints will make a return engagement along with a full contingent of Woodhull’s regular 6 classes of competition.

Because of scheduling problems next Saturday was the only suitable date for the Patriots to return and it will mean some readjusting of the original schedule as well as ticket pricing for the Annual George Williams Memorial Trophy Races sponsored by the Addison Farm Supply.

Rain checks from Saturday, May 17 will be honored; however there will be an increased Grandstand Admission on May 24 of $15 from the regularly posted $13. However, the fans will get to see a full blown show of ASCS Patriot Sprints along with the L.J. Kennedy Trucking 358 Modifieds, the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman, the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks along with the Signs Plus Mini Stocks and the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts FWD Divisions. In addition the NAPA 360 Late Models will also be back in action after a week off. The 358 Modifieds will run a regular distance feature as their Special Event will now have to be rescheduled due to the return of the Patriot Sprints.

Also, it should be noted that with 7 full classes of action on the card it will mean a “Features Only” format for at least on and possible two of Woodhull’s regular classes of competition.

“I told the drivers at the beginning of the year that should we get into situations like this that I would exercise the option of running “Features Only” in some of the classes that don’t have full fields. In this case I will not drop a class for the night, but we still have to get the show completed in a timely manner.”

The class or classes that will run “Features Only” will be determined on May 24; however they will all received additional hot laps prior to their feature event.
