Billet Wins Make-up Feature from Last Week at SSP on Saturday; Rain Wins The Rest of the Night

Posted by Tom Ames  |  05/19/08

Newberrytown, PA (May 17, 2008) – Racing action at the Susquehanna Speedway Park for Stock Car Saturday Night found Carlisle’s Carl Billet winning the Late Model feature postponed from April 26. The York Haven Auto Sales Mini Van feature went to Richard Day. A rain storm hit the speedway as the remainder of the feature events were to begin. All qualifying events were completed. The feature events postponed to a late date are the Late Models (rescheduled for Sat., June 28), Street Stocks (rescheduled for Sat., June 21), Xtreme Stock Cars (rescheduled for Sat., June 28), Four Cylinder Stock Cars (rescheduled for Sat., May 24) and PENNMAR Vintage Cars (rescheduled for Sat., June 21).

The evening began with a make-up 20-lap Late Model feature from April 26. Chuck Yingling Jr. and Carl Billet brought the field to the green with Billet taking the lead on start. A 12-car pileup in turns 3 & 4 on the first lap brought out the yellow. A complete restart was in order with all 12 cars moved to the rear of the field. Once again on the restart, Billet took command of the lead with Yingling once again in close pursuit. On the fifth circuit, Yingling brought out the yellow, moving Jake Jones to the rear bumper of Billet. On the restart, Billet held the lead. Jones chased Billet lap after lap but at the end was unable to take the top spot. 2007 Late Model Track Champion, Carl Billet took his second victory of the season. Jones finished second with Bud Witmer in third, Justin Ehhrart finished fourth and Cam Zeigler was in fifth. Ehrhart failed to go over the scales after the feature and was moved to the tail of the lead lap to the 12th spot. This moved John Moser, Jr. in the fifth place finishing position.

In the 10-lap York Haven Auto Sales Mini Van feature event, Richard Day took the lead on the 7th lap form Jeff Svendsen and went on to win the feature over John Durussell. Daryl Sipe finished third with Chad Gracey and Robert Fryberger finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Racing action returns on Saturday, May 24, with the 54th Anniversary Race featuring the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Classic Cars and Four Cylinder Stock Cars. There will also be make-up Xtreme Stock Car feature from the postponed April 26 race event and Four Cylinder Stock Cars from May 17.
