Plattsburgh, NY - George Foley led every lap of the Ernies Discount Tools Modified feature to post his first ‘08 win by a three car-length margin Saturday at Airborne Speedway. Mike Bruno was in close pursuit three laps from the finish when contact with Greg Atkins’ car while trying to lap him, as Foley had just done, knocked him out of contention. That put Martin Roy alongside Foley on the ensuing restart, but he was unable to keep pace. Matt Woodruff of Bloomingdale finished third. Patrick Dupree, from 18th, finished fourth ahead of Alain Boisvert in fifth.
Foley had raced to a long early lead before a yellow on lap 10 for Andy Heywood. Foley and Woodruff formed the first row with Bruno and Boisvert in row two followed by Leon Gonyo and Roy in positions 5-6. When the green came out, Bruno quickly took over second and Roy, with a backstretch muscle move split two cars and wound up third. By the halfway mark Jason Durgin had surged up to fifth before falling back to seventh at the finish.
Bucko Branham of Plattsburgh drove the Northern Sanitation/Liquor and Wine Warehouse No. 20 to his second Sportsman feature win in a row. Branham took the lead to stay on lap three and was never headed. Toby Ebersole of Peru held off Shawn Duquette in a tight battle for second. Jamy Begor and Robin Wood completed the top five. Positions 6-10 went to Jason Bonnett, Tylor Terry, Skip Liberty, Brian Criss and Chris Reeves.
Lonnie Rivers of Morrisonville bested Lance Rabtoy in the Renegade 25-lap feature. Rivers and Rabtoy raced a few feet apart the whole way well ahead of Robert Gordon, Ken Davies and Keith O’Neil.
Billy Thwaites of Mooers drove to his first career win in the NAPA Warrior feature. Justin Doner of Keeseville was second. Rick Doner placed third. Randy Martin of Plattsburgh won the Bomber feature.
Racing resumes Saturday, May 24 with a Salute to Veterans and a five-division race card presented by Marsha Homes and Northern Car Crushers that includes kiddie race car rides.
