May 18, 2008 ~ For Immediate Release
TWIN 40’s PLEASE THE CROWD
Once the sky cleared and the track was ready for racing, the Victoria Day Weekend Lucas Oil Twin 40’s, presented by C.Smith Automotive, had the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modifieds driving hard and fast to the delight of the crowd at Brighton Speedway. Taking the first 40 lapper was 2007 Track Champion Doug O’Blenis (#32) of Shannonville. Following the first feature the crews and drivers worked just as hard and fast in the pits, to have their rides ready for the second 40 lapper. Although 4 of the cars didn’t make the line-up, those that did worked hard to catch up with the winner, 2006 Champion, Shawn Gregory (#1) of Trenton. The surprise of the night was Rookie Brandon Gregory (#01) also of Trenton, who came from the back to finish second behind his brother.
Another surprise on this night was the double win by the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week, #35 Jerry Kimmerly of Brighton, in his Brighton Automotive ProStock. The rain that fell throughout the day left the track in fine racing form as the 1/3 mile clay oval awarded Stacey Ferguson #1 of Picton, her second checkered flag in just as many nights in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 Division. This puts her in fine form as the current leader in the McDougall Insurance Comp 4 Triple Crown series.
Also in fine point standing to start the season is Warren Mowat, #46 of Brighton, in the Picture This Pure Stock Division. The first night of racing for this class saw him take a qualifier and the feature, and prevail over all other competitors in the class. Robert Brooks, #95 of Trenton experienced huge mechanical difficulties when his fuel cell fell out of the car, and his crew had trouble securing it in time for the feature. “ It’s a good thing this is a long weekend. It gives us some extra time in the shop to work out the glitches as we get the season started,” said Brooks with a smile.
The next race event is the Campbellford Chrysler Car Load Night, which includes the four regular classes (FAB 4), the Quinte Towing Stingers and the Mayor’s Hospice Challenge. Green flag flies at 7pm on May 24th. For more information on this and other race events visit www.brightonspeedway.com..
