FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FRANKLIN, PA .. For the 11th season in a row, Tri-City Speedway
will pit racer against racer with the Schwab's Ford Hard Charger Award.
Awarding the driver that passes the most cars in feature races in all
divisions during the regular season, the Schwab's Ford Hard Charger Award
offers a unique opportunity for drivers to compete against their fellow
racers to determine which of them is the hardest charger all season
long.
For 2008, Schwab's Ford of Titusville, Pa., assumed title
sponsorship of the award. Known as Tri-City's Truck Headquarters, Schwab's Ford
is nearing a century of business as a top dealer in Ford cars and trucks
in the Tri-City area.
"Schwab's Ford has been a longtime sponsor at Tri-City," said track
Co-Promoter Mike Graham. "We're thrilled that they elected to remain a
vital part of our shows for 2008. The Hard Charger Award is a perfect
match with Schwab's Ford, and we're really excited with the way they
decided to involve the fans."
Each week, near the Tri-City Speedway Apparel Booth outside turn
four, fans will be able to enter a contest to win four free grandstand
tickets. Each fan can enter weekly by completing a ballot and depositing
it into a bucket of their choice. There are five buckets, one for each
division. Each race night, the previous week's Hard Charger Award
winner will draw a pill that will represent one of the track's weekly
divisions. If the Hard Charger Award winner for that week is from the
selected division, then the driver will collect $50 courtesy of Schwab's Ford
and one fan ballot will be selected via blind draw. That fan will win
the free tickets.
Points for the Hard Charger Award are accumulated in each feature
for the DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, FASTRAK Late Models, E Mods, Pro
Stocks and Thundercars. A driver earns one passing point for each position
advanced in the final finishing order from that driver's official
starting spot. For example, a driver that starts 12th and wins the race
earns 11 Hard Charger passing points. The passing points for all divisions
are grouped as one set, which means drivers compete against their
fellow competitors in all five classes of action. Weekly, Tri-City
recognizes the Hard Charger of the Week Award winner in victory lane prior to
the races, and the winner receives a free case of Pennzoil.
At the season banquet in January, the Hard Charger of the Year Award
is presented along with cash prizes for the top five drivers in the
point standings.
Past Hard Charger of the Year Award winners include Pro Stock racers
Dave Ferringer (1998, 2005), Bobby Whitling (1999) and Doug Iorio
(2003), DIRTcar Big Block Modified drivers Lou Blaney (2000) and Del
Rougeux Jr. (2001), Super Sprint ace Ed Lynch Jr. (2002), Thundercar hotshoe
Robby Switzer (2004), and E Mod stars Brent Rhebergen (2006) and Shawn
Shingledecker (2007).
