HEARN WRAPS UP SOLID SPRING
LOOKS FORWARD TO SUMMER RACING CHALLENGES
SUSSEX, NJ (May 24)……..Traditionally, the Memorial holiday weekend marks the end of spring and the beginning of summer activities. For champion dirt track Modified driver Brett Hearn, 49, of Sussex , New Jersey , summer means the challenges of almost non-stop racing. “Some weeks we’re on the road five days or more,” says Hearn, the winner of 740 feature races in his 34-year racing career. “To be successful, we have to be totally prepared for the grind. That’s why getting off to a good start in the spring is so very important.”
In 20 outings thus far in 2008, beginning in February in Florida , Hearn has won six times, registered 15 top-five finishes, and 18 top-tens. “The key factor is consistency,” says Hearn. “Obviously, we’re after wins, but a good record of top-fives and top-ten finishes is what really pays off.”
During the course of the February to November Nor the ast dirt track Modified season, Hearn will race 100 times or more. To accomplish this almost Herculean feat, he drives for three different teams. On the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Modified Series traveling circuit and at most independent Modified races, Hearn is behind the wheel of the combined BH Racing Enterprises, Inc./Madsen Motorsports No. 20, sponsored by Wentworth Custom Homes. On Saturday nights at Orange County Fair Speedway ( Middletown , New York ) and Fonda ( New York ) Speedway , he drives the J&S Racing, Inc. No. 74 sponsored by Smith Bro the rs Concrete Contractors. And in all small-block 358 Modified races, weekly at Albany-Saratoga Speedway and in major events across the region, Hearn takes to the track in the 4-Star Racing No. 4 owned by Vinnie Salerno.
“I couldn’t be happier with the way things have worked out. These are three outstanding teams that work well toge the r, take great pride in the ir cars, and are ready to win every time out,” says Hearn.
Hearn is on target to set several career record milestones this season. He’s just 10 wins away from 750 victories, a mark that’s among the all-time best in all forms of oval track racing. Of those wins, 299 have come in extra-distance, extra-purse races. And he needs just two victories to register 100 in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Modified Series.
