BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 21, 2008 . . . The excitement of NASCAR Late Model stock car racing will be in the limelight on Saturday, May 24th, when Jeff D’Ambrosio Dodge Night is presented at Grandview Speedway.
On most Saturday nights the NASCAR 358 Modifieds get the most attention but Mark Garman, he handles radio communications with the race teams, has worked overtime in putting together a long list of sponsors that will allow the track to up the prize money for this Saturday’s “Memorial Day” Late Model feature. The winner of the 25-lap feature race, starting 24 cars, will receive at least $1,000.
In addition a “Grandview Gauntlet” will be presented. This will be a series of match races featuring the top ten in the Late Model point standings. The tenth place driver will take to the speedway while the rest of the top ten sit in the infield. The driver on the track will challenge one of the drivers and they will take to the track for a match race. The loser heads to the pits out of the competition while the winner gets to challenge another racer and this continues until there is only one of the top ten left. The winner will receive a cash prize in addition to a beautiful plaque courtesy of sponsor Terre Trophy Co. of Reading, PA.
If drivers in the top ten choose not to participate other drivers will be invited to compete.
Other sponsors will include Bair Wheel Repair, Kochel Equipment, Norm’s Save Station, Munches Lunches Mobile Lunch Trucks, Mike Grim’s Truck Wreck Specialists and Reading Fairgrounds Racing Historical Society.
All competitors in the “Grandview Gauntlet” will receive prize or at very least have their pit pass covered for that night.
The NASCAR Modifieds will be in action in a full series of qualifying events leading up to a 30-lap feature race that starts at least 28 cars on the one-third-mile, banked clay oval. The winner goes home with $2250.
Six time track champion Jeff Strunk, who has yet to win a feature this season, leads the point battle that rewards the champion with more than $10,000 in track point money along with additional money from NASCAR. The champion also gets a cruise through the Hawaiian Islands with a guest. That trip is valued at more than $5,000. Fans wishing to be part of the trip are invited to contact Marilyn Saxton at 215.752.2392.
Spectator gates will open at 5:30 pm on Saturday, May 24th with racing starting at 7:30 pm.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road just off Route 100 in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For information telephone 610.754.7688 or check in at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
