Eric Gauvreau winner in the modified feature race at Edelweiss Speedway
Cantley, PQ – Friday, May 23 2008 – Martin Bélanger – Edelweiss Speedway was presenting a complete race program plus a wet track enduro on another gorgeous night at the track.
Kyle Dingwall took the lead in the 30-lap modified feature race over Ron Valade and Laurent Ladouceur, when Ladouceur grabbed the second spot on lap 2. Dingwall had a good lead over Ladouceur as Gauvreau took third on lap 7 in the backstretch over Valade. The first 13 laps went on green when Gage Morin spun out and the first caution was on the field. Ladouceur grabbed the lead on the restart when Marc Therrien stopped in turn 4 on lap 14 and the field slowed again. Ladouceur kept his lead when a lot of movement occurred for spots 2 to 5 when Eric Gauvreau, Bobby Herrington and Pierre Dagenais passed Dingwall until Dagenais spun out in turn 1 on lap 16. Ladouceur was still in front on the restart when Eric Gauvreau passed him from the outside on lap 18 to take the lead. The yellow came back on when Brian McDonald had problems on lap 20. Gauvreau was able to maintain his spot over Ladouceur on the green. Marc Therrien slowed down the field on lap 27. Gauvreau stayed first with Pierre Dagenais taking second on lap 28. Gauvreau led the last laps to win his first feature of the year over Dagenais, Ladouceur, Dingwall and Bobby Herrington completed the top 5.
John Benard and Stéphane Carrière leads the field of 14 cars with Carrière took the lead with Brian Rochon now in second when the yellow came out on the first lap. On the restart, Carrière stayed in front with Guy Regimbald taking the second on Rochon and his now has eyes on the leader. Régimbald gets a little too high and Rochon is now in second when John Benard stops on lap 7 and the yellow is back out. Carrière had a good start and leads a lap when Brian Rochon loses a wheel in turn 4 and yellow is out again. Carrière kept his spot with a lot of action occurring in the top with Nico Leblanc now in second and Bruno Boivin in third. Carrière led the 15 laps to win his first feature of the year over Nico Lebalnc and Bruno Boivin who completes the podium.
Dave Bell led the first lap in the 12-lap feature race in the mod-lite when Dean Pronovost passed him on the second lap and led the remaining laps to win his second feature in a row over Dave Bell, Patrick Pronovost and Christian Pronovost.
A good battle to start of the 4 cylinders feature as Alex Pilon and Marco Raymond were echanging the lead on the first 2 laps when Pilon went too high in the backstretch and Gabriel Mercier was able to grab the lead but the first caution came out when Marco Raymond had problems on lap 4. Martin Bernard took the lead on the restart and led two laps when Martin Lagacé had problems and the yellow came out again. Bernard was able to stay in front when the green came back on when on lap 8, Yannick Raymond had troubles in turn 1 and the yellow came back on the field. Bernard had another good start over Mercier and led the final laps to win his second feature of the season in front of Gabriel Mercier and Jean-Marc Larose.
Yan Robertson won the 15-lap wet track enduro race over Benoit Nadon & Karol Thibodeau.
A great night of racing in each category as the track was again in superb condition. Drivers did numerous passes. Imprimerie Brisson will present a full show next week along with a Mod-Lite Invitational; new cars will be added to the growing field. The 4 wheelers will also be in action with the first of four races of the Centre Sports Motorisé Challenge. The night will start at 7:30pm
