GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie 9th in OCFS Run; HigFab Highlighted on TV
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Modified talent Jerry Higbie drove his Shaver owned signature numbered 47 Big Block Modified to a ninth place finish last Saturday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway. Higbie started 15th in the 26-car starting field and made good strides forward early in the race when a foreign object possibly from another racer car broke off the brake caliper of the race car. Higbie ascertained right away what had happened to the car as a similar occurrance happened to him on opening night at the Accord Speedway resulting in a fire that resulted in a departure from the race. Higbie, realizing the problem with his race car, maintained his position throughout the remainder of the race and brought the wounded racer home in a solid ninth place run.
With Accord once again falling to the weather, the Higbie Team enjoyed a short weekend of racing. The team was geared to race again Sunday at OCFS with a dual show matched with the World of Outlaws and the 358 Modifieds. Higbie was to buckle himself into the Affordable Transmissions owned number 17 for the special Sunday event but again the unpredictable weather played havoc at Middletown as the rain came in early and the show was cancelled with a new date of September 24th established for the event. The weather picture appears favorable on all of the weather channels for the coming weekend and it is hoped racing can once again roar in the Hudson Valley for all of the race teams and promoter Gary Palmer.
The hottest driver on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car trail, Jason Meyers, utilized the HigFab shop as a backdrop to do an interview on the Sunday night portion of "Wind Tunnel" with Dave DeSpain. Higbie and Meyers were teammates along with Randy Hannagan when the Corey Tucker Team took on the best of the best at the 22nd Annual Chili Bowl back in January in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Higbie hot lapped the Meyers entry when Jason was late in arriving for the event and all three of the super talents quickly forged a strong friendship. For the popular Higbie, the Chili Bowl was a big challenge for the former Modifieds only driver, but he quickly adapted to the powerful creations and captured a heat race win in his first appearance at the biggest indoor event in the country. While Higbie is hoping to return to race again at the Chili Bowl in the future, should he not, he realizes the friendships he made while being at the event are well served and life lasting.
Higbie's aggressive 2008 racing schedule will find him in the thick of the action as he prepares for his runs at the Accord Speedway and Orange County Fair Speedway Championships this year. He will also be challenging for the ROC title. For the Accord and ROC events, Higbie will race his signature numbered 97 cars and for his assault on OCFS and select WRG Series Races, Higbie will once again strap himself into the Team Shaver numbered 47 equipment as the Shaver Team will have two Big Block cars for Higbie to steer. Sponsorship for the Teams comes from a great group of loyal sponsors who have supported Higbie throughout his successful racing career. Mid-City Transit, Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing and BadaBing Pizza have all lent their support to the 97 cars, and Beaverkill Trout Hatchery, Superior Building Supply and Woodburne Lawn & Garden lend their support to the Shaver Team. In addition to his Big Block rides, Higbie will be slipping behind the belts of the Affordable Transmission numbered 17 for a run at the 358 Small Block title at OCFS.
Jerry Higbie Racing would like to thank the entire racing community for their support and well wishes as the team prepares for a great season in racing this year.
