HOSPICE IS THE BIGGEST WINNER
The 8th Annual Hospice Mayor’s Cup Challenge, hosted by Brighton Speedway on May 24th, brought the services and programs of Hospice Northumberland into the spotlight, while raising more than $12,000 for the much needed compassionate support agency, making them the biggest winner of the night! Brighton Mayor Christine Herrington repeated her trip to victory lane, with the assistance of Councillor Craig Kerr, by beating out her fellow politicians in an odd ball version of the three legged race.
Beating out the competition in traditional 1/3 mile clay oval style was Corey Earl (#11), of Ameliasburgh, in his Brighton Automotive ProStock. Charlie Sandercock (#57), of Trenton, also made a visit to Victory Lane in his Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified, gaining him regular points and one win in the RONA Triple Crown Series. Single wins, and their first this season, were also celebrated by Jennifer Vandertoorn (#70), of Brighton, in her Picture This Pure Stock, and Kyle Sopaz (#12), also of Brighton, in his Bill’s Johns Comp 4. Another Brighton boy, Andy Fletcher (#42) , started the Quinte Towing Stinger Class season by showing why he was the 2007 Class Champion and took a double win.
Doubles is what is on everyone’s schedule as Brighton Speedway launches the first double race weekend of the season on May 30th and 31st. On Friday, Holiday Inn Trenton presents the first $5.00 Friday, featuring Picture This Pure Stocks, Gord’s Water “Van”tastics, 4-wheelers and a 30 Lap Hotch’s Auto Parts Endurance Race. All other divisions also have practice laps scheduled. On Saturday join HMS as they present the “Race to Read” celebration night for the Grade 3 students who committed extra time to reading with their families during the month of May. Adding to the four regular classes (FAB 4), and the first race in the Hotch’s Auto Parts ProStock Triple Crown, is Spectator One on One Racing. The Green flag always flies at 7pm.
