Weedsport, NY – May 25, 2008 – By Dan Kapuscinski, Cayuga County Fair Speedway PR and Promotions Coordinator

Sunny skies and warm temperatures greeted Hall of Fame Weekend Sunday, May 25th at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, and it was Bill Clark’s night to shine. Clark led each lap of the Ferris Mowers 25-lap DIRTcar Sportsman Modified feature event in his no. 99 for his first career triumph in the division.

Clark pulled away from Tim Currier and Jeremy Pitcher late in the going to claim the victory. Jason Occhino and Daryl Hilkert rounded out the top five. Completing the top ten were John Petrowicz, AJ Kingsley, Jim Spano, Tom Juhl Jr., and Mike Entwistle.

The 20-lap UMP Street Stock main event was a close battle throughout with Wayne Ellison coming out on top. Although Ellison led every lap in the no. 18, he had to hold off the advances of Andy Fisk, Steve Woodworth, and Mike Welch over the course of the event.

The top four runners ran close the entire race, with Fisk attempting to make a move on the final circuit. In the end Ellison proved to be too tough, and pulled into victory lane. Fisk, Woodworth, Welch, and Chris Fisher finished the top five finishers.

The Midstate Vintage Modifieds brought two feature events to the Weedsport oval Sunday night. Mike McLaughlin in the no. 7 machine led all 12-laps of the first main event, pulling away from Matt Scott in the closing laps.

Norm Richardson, Bob Williams, and Bryan Litzenberger were the top five finishers in the Sportsman/Hobby portion of the Midstate program.

The Modified portion of the Midstate feature events saw the no. 23 of Rob Casti lead the first two circuits around the 3/8-mile oval. However, on lap-3 Rich Applebee made his presence felt and powered by Casti for the top spot. The Port Byron, NY driver led the final 9-laps on his way to the victory.

Bill Kissestein, Ron Hadden, John Walsh, and James Hilimire completed the top five finishers for the evening.

Next Sunday, June 1st at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway it’s Peckham General Contracting “4 the Family Night.” Fans can get 4 admissions/ 4 drinks/ 4 dogs/ and 4 fries for just $40. The DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, and BattleKarz will be in action at 7pm.

Cayuga County Extras: Both the no. 99 of Bill Clark and the no. 35 of Jason Occhino were fined money and points for rules infractions in the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified main event. Clark ’s fines were related to his distributor, while Occhino’s infraction was due to his carburetor.

The no. 17t DIRTcar Sportsman machine of Todd Town took a wild ride in his heat race early in the night. Town slid into and over the first turn wall, which resulted in the car rolling over on the other side of the first turn barrier. Town was OK, but his mount was done for the night.
