$2,000 to win Earl Halaquist Memorial This Saturday at Fonda Speedway Presented by the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – This Saturday night at the famed Fonda Speedway, it will be a celebration of a true sprint car Hall of Famer…Earl Halaquist. The 25th Anniversary Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) will be showcasing the 6th annual Earl Halaquist Memorial for the former United Racing Company champion that was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame on 2000.

The famed driver from Sidney, N.Y. will have many family members and friends in attendance carrying on his tradition. The stars and cars from ESS will be out in force looking for the $2,000 pot of gold at the end of the 25 lap rainbow. The event is also the second leg of the GSSI I-90 Challenge where five drivers will be sharing a $1,000 point fund that was set up for the two events at Utica-Rome (ran on May 25th) and this one at Fonda.

Leading the GSSI points coming into the Halaquist Memorial is Utica winner Jason Barney followed by Lance Yonge, Jeff Cook, Dan Kaszubinski and Justin Barger. All five drivers have a shot at the over all title with Barger looking to make the biggest move as he is the defending Memorial winner.

Along with all these stars, you can expect other top ESS chauffeurs such as defending champion Steve Poirier, the 2006 champ Alain Bergeron, local favorites Jeff VanDusen, Cory Sparks, Jessica Zemken, Jami Russell as well as Michael Parent, Tommy Wickham, Bubby Kerrick, Mike Stelter, Brian McDonald, Blake Breen, Chuck Hebing and many others.

The 2008 season for the Lucas Oil tour is getting ready to heat up with the summer months with Barger claiming the opening event at Black Rock followed up by Barney’s win last Sunday. This event marks the second consecutive year to the “Track of Champions” after a 13 year absence and it will be a vital part of the 25th Anniversary Tour.

Fans will see 3 or 4 Car Mate Custom Built Trailer heat events, the Gabriel’s IGA/Walt’s Hobby Dash and KSE Racing Products B-Main all leading up to the $2,000 to win Memorial 25 lapper. Then as an extra bonus they will also see a special 20 lap, 360 open that was rained out back into April making for a two feature night!

Saturday night, May 31st is the date, the Fonda Speedway is the site…it’s the sixth annual Earl Halaquist and it will be an ESS tradition of excitement guaranteed! For more information, please log on to www.empiresupersprints.com
