Thorold, Ontario (May 28) Sprint Car Fans in Niagara and beyond can look forward to the last Saturday in May when David Chevrolet Corvette proudly presents the only Merrittville Speedway Sprint Car Event of 2008 – Saturday May 31st.
”It’s shaping up to be an awesome night,” relates (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “Merrittville fans really enjoy Sprint Cars … the lightning quick winged wonders … the aroma of the alcohol … it’s an event not to miss for sure.”
In the last event for the ASCS Patriot Sprint Group – alcohol - or the lack of it created quite a finish at the Eriez Speedway – May 25th.
John Schuyler ran out of fuel out of turn four with the checkered flag in sight and won by 1.5 feet (.01 seconds) over Don Adamczyk. Bryan Howland finished third with his front wheel even with Schuyler's right rear.
In their last visit in 2006, it was Howland who came home the winner – holding off the challenge of veteran Rick Wilson while still a teenager.
“When the ASCS Patriot Tour Schedule was released in the winter,” added Erica Bicknell, “it was touted as their most exciting year … it sounds like that is definitely the case so far … Merrittville fans will definitely not be disappointed.”
“This schedule minimizes travel and maximizes excitement,” noted Regional Director Mike Emhof.
Chuck Hebing has also visited the winner’s circle in the early season – having captured Saturday May 24th’s rain-delayed event at Woodhull. The 2008 ASCS Patriot Sprint Group Season Opener at Fulton was also delayed and hasn’t been rescheduled as of yet.
Weekly Merrittville Speedway Race Fans can also look forward to the Original Pizza Logs Sportsmen Division sharing the spotlight as they will compete in a 50 lap event plus the Hoosier Stocks and Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders.
