Insinger Race Fuels ASCS Patriot Rookie of the Year Battle is On!
Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla. (May 29, 2008) - With a pair of races now in the record books for the 2008 ASCS Patriot Season, a review of the current rookie slate shows a fierce battle that is likely to sizzle all season long.
Seven rookies have already run on the 2008 ASCS Patriot Tour, putting them in the hunt for the Insinger Race Fuels Rookie of the Year. Every one of them has experienced the intense learning curve that sprint car racing offers, but the progress has already been made two races in.
The amazing thing about this class is that they have all come from different styles of cars including 305 sprints, mini sprints, micro sprints, modifieds, late models, mini stocks, mod lites and supermodifieds.
Bubba Broderick of Brookfield, CT leads the standings after an impressive fourth place showing from the back of the pack Sunday at Eriez Speedway. Being 450 miles from home didn’t faze the graduate of the mini sprints as he slung his No. 5 around the high side in the late stages to move around a number of veterans.
Joe August Jr. currently sits second in the standings, fresh off a 10th place finish at Eriez. August has been working on transferring over from his modified style to the sprint cars.
T.J. Newton thrilled his No. 57 team on Sunday when he won the “Four Laps of Fame” Dash. Newton also races his late model when not driving for Eric and Eileen Smith.
Robbie Shuttleworth missed the opener at Fulton, but was impressive this past weekend, when bad luck was not biting the 15-year-old from Geneva.
Bruce Dewick got his first crack at a sprint car this weekend, starting at the challenging Woodhull Raceway. Dewick is looking forward to getting to tracks that will allow him to hit his rhythm.
Brandon Warner and Bobby Magner were at the season opener at Fulton and while they may not contend for rookie of the year, they are just as competitive as anyone else in the class.
More rookies are expected to show up in the weeks to come, but they will have work to do to catch up to the early frontrunners, who already have their sea legs underneath them.
Insinger Race Fuels is the official fuel supplier to the ASCS Patriot Races, with their high quality methanol available at each American Patriot Race at the Mike Emhof Motorsports Trailer. They will fund the rookie of the year award to the top competitors, as well as providing a performance jacket to the top recipient.
The Rookie of the Year battle is based mostly off the overall point standings, but in order to win the driver must also display quality sportsmanship and professionalism throughout the 2008 season.
