Tyler Walker wins 3rd GSC feature of season at Ocean Speedway

By Gary Thomas

Watsonville, CA – May 30, 2008…Rebounding from a hard crash last weekend in Chico Los Angeles’ Tyler Walker came back to post his third Golden State Challenge Series main event victory of the season on Friday night at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway.

Walker survived a bevy of cautions and reds to dominate the final stages of the main event as his Lee Lindgren wrenched SC Motorsports No. 24 was on a rail.

The original start of the 30 lap feature saw outside front row starter Evan Suggs of Scotts Valley get a bit loose in turn four and Fresno’s Tommy Tarlton get into the side of him. It started a chain reaction, which resulted in veteran driver Jerry Bonema coming to stop and creating a complete restart. The damage was too severe to continue for Suggs and it put a tough end to the feature for the 21 year-old driver.

Walker got the jump into turn one on the next start but current point leader Jonathan Allard of Chico was able to get good bite off the bottom and shoot into the lead from his third starting position. Allard would lead for three laps before Walker was able to get back by and put his machine out front into the top spot. The two continued to run closely by each other and in traffic on lap six Allard shot back underneath the green No. 24 to reclaim the lead.

A caution on lap eight slowed things down and on the restart it was Walker who suddenly was put back into the lead, as it was determined that a full lap hadn’t yet been completed. After this Walker had no worries and was able to easily handle the field over the final 22 laps to pick up his third career GSC main event win. The racing among the top five cars was very good in-between the cautions as J.Allard, brother Stephen Allard and Campbell’s Bud Kaeding & San Jose’s Tim Kaeding diced it up on the well prepared Ocean Speedway surface.

With just seven laps left in the feature Bud Kaeding was able to put his BK Motorsports No. 29 into second where he went on to pick up his second best finish of the GSC season. Brother Tim was on the march all race long from his seventh row starting position and was able to slice his way into third with just four laps remaining in the race to record another podium finish in the Tom Rolfe Racing No. 10.

J. Allard had slipped back to fifth at one point, but was able to get by brother Stephen off the very last corner to score fourth aboard the Williams Motorsports No. 0. S. Allard crossed the stripe in fifth to record his second straight GSC top five while driving the David Key Trucking No. 86.
