Weedsport, NY – June 1, 2008 – By Dan Kapuscinski, Canandaigua Speedway PR and Promotions Coordinator
After what looked to be a sure wash out late Saturday afternoon, the sun and blue skies came out at the Canandaigua Speedway. Unfortunately, the severe shower that passed through early in the night left the ‘Land of Legends’ oval in rough shape and eventually forced race officials to cancel the evening’s activities.
“The storm that passed through in the afternoon dropped a lot of rain in a short period of time and before we knew it the sun was back out,” said Canandaigua Speedway General Manager, Jack Deery. “Our Speedway track staff and crews, as well as our race teams worked extremely hard to work the track back in, but unfortunately it just wasn’t to be tonight. Above all, we want to thank our very loyal Canandaigua Speedway fans that stuck in there with us through the night. They are truly one of a kind.”
As a thank you to the spectators in attendance Saturday night, all fans that entered can exchange their rain check for a free admission at any one of the next three events at Canandaigua Speedway.
“Tonight was one of those nights that make you appreciate race fans,” said Deery. “It was a long evening, but our fans and competitors hung in there until the end, and we appreciate that very much. We tried out best to give everyone the racing they came to see, but the track was simply too unsafe tonight after several hours of work.”
Next weekend at Canandaigua Speedway it’s the HEP Sales Open Wheel Showdown featuring the Patriots American Sprint Car Series. The DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, and PureStox will also be in attendance with racing starting at 7pm.
