UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY TO HOST FIRST EVENT OF RACE OF CHAMPIONS DART DIRT SERIES THIS SUNDAY
VERNON, NY- Another night of professional short track racing in on tap this Sunday, June 8, at the Utica-Rome Speedway when the Mirabito Fuel Group & Keith Pylinski Appraisal/ Pylinski Realty presents the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Sportsman Series with the 358-Modifieds, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. Gates for the exciting evening of racing action open at 3 p.m. with racing starting promptly at 5:30 p.m.
Andrew Harpells Race of Champions Dart Dirt Series for the Sportsman will attempt to start their 2008 tour off again this Sunday, after rain postponed the event from its original May 18 date. Many of the best Sportsman competitors are expected to compete for the $1,000 first place payoff. Last season, Utica-Rome Speedway had four drivers in the top five point positions in the North region of the series.
Stewart Friesen is in familiar territory, atop the point standings, a place that he has known well in his two full seasons at the Vernon track. Friesen has won the track title both of his seasons and is pushing to secure his third $8,000 track title. Hot on his heels is a talented group of drivers that includes Pat Ward, Willy Decker, Bobby Varin, Mitch Gibbs, Paul Kinney, AJ Romano, Gus Schmidt, Paul Jensen, and many more. With this group of drivers, the 30 lap 358-Modified main event is a war every week.
Currently, Tom Denton is the head of the Pro Stock class with Jim Normoyle, Shawn Frost, Mark Effner, and Bret Belden chasing. Chris Carr is the surprise point leader in the Pure Stock ranks with defending track champion Russ Marsden trailing. Phil Norman, Frank Hyatt, and Waylan Wilczek round out the top five.
