Mohawk International Raceway to Host the 25th Anniversary Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints this Saturday: SUNY Canton A-Main to pay $2,000 to win!
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – It’s a new year and a new image for the fast half-miler formerly known as the Frogtown International Speedway. It’s still located at Frogtown Rd. on the Akwesasne Indian Reservation, but the newly named Mohawk International Raceway (MIR) is ready for the first invasion of the Lucas Oil sponsored Empire Super Sprints (ESS) this Saturday night.
It has already been a banner year for MIR and now the raceway that borders the St. Lawrence Seaway is ready for the winged warriors. SUNY Canton is backing the 25 lap finale where the winner will take home a base purse of $2,000 in cash and with many other bonuses and contingencies, that total could very well swell to over $2,500.
After last weeks rain out at Fonda, many ESS stars will be chomping at the bit to earn valuable points toward the 2008 Lucas Oil Crown. Justin Barger is leading the way with Lance Yonge, Doug Emery, Dan Kaszubinski, Jeff VanDusen and defending champ Steve Poirier strong out of the gate. All these stars along with Alain Bergeron, Michael Parent, Jeff Cook, Bubby Kerrick, Tommy Wickham, Cory Sparks, Normand Beaudreault as well as MIR favorites Brian McDonald, Lee Ladouceur and for the first time ever in a sprint, Perry Francis will be on hand. The native from the reservation will be piloting the back-up machine of Poirier. Throw in Rick and April Wilson, Anthony Cain, Chris Jones, Gordy Button, Brandon Warner and the first visit by Andy Noto a big field is expected.
Three Car Mate Custom Built Trailer heats will kick off the action; C&B Enterprise is backing the Walt’s Hobby Series dash with KSE Racing Products sponsoring the B-Main. Fans from both the United States and Canada will be in for an action packed evening.
It’s the Mohawk International Raceway, the 25th Anniversary of one of the most successful 360 sprint car organizations, the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints…a combo that will continue the tradition of excitement guaranteed!!
