GRAND BLANC, Mich. (June 5) – GM Performance Parts is the new title
sponsor of IMCA’s Crate Model division, while continuing a lucrative
awards program for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod drivers this
season.
GM Performance will provide the $5,000 point fund to be paid to the
top 10 drivers in national point standings for Crate Models, and up
to $1,000 in bonuses to drivers competing with crate engines at each
track sanctioning the Northern SportMods.
The top driver in national Crate Model standings earns $1,500, with
$1,000 for second place, $700 for third, $600 for fourth, $400 for
fifth, $300 for sixth, $200 for seventh, and $100 for eighth through
10th places. Crate Model competitors must display two GM Performance
Parts decals on their race car to be eligible for point fund shares.
Top drivers powered by a crate engine at each Northern SportMod track
get $500 bonuses after point standings become official this fall,
with $250 for second, $150 for third, and $50 for fourth and fifth
place finishers.
Thirty-two Northern SportMod drivers earned shares of $12,850 in post-
season bonuses paid out by GM based on 2007 track standings. The
division is sanctioned at 20 tracks this year.
In its fourth year as an IMCA sponsor, GM Performance manufactures
the crate engines used in both divisions.
“The relationship IMCA has established with GM through the crate
motor program has grown exponentially over the course of the past
four years and this year the timing allows us to announce these great
incentives sooner in the racing season,” said Kevin Yoder, director
of marketing for IMCA. “Tracking crate motor drivers in the Karl
Chevrolet Northern SportMod division will be important again this
year, so I encourage members to return the new sign-up forms as soon
as they can.”
Information about the GM program is available from Bill Martens at
810 606-2293 or from Yoder at the IMCA home office.
