A great night of racing at Edelweiss Speedway!

Cantley, PQ – Friday June 6, 2008 – Martin Bélanger – A exciting show was presented in front of the biggest crowd of the year as double features for Modifieds, Semi-Pro and 4 cylinders plus the presence of the Pro-Stocks, 4 wheelers and a demolition derby at the end of the night. Les Toitures Marcel Raymond presented this great night of racing.

Nicolas Vaillant grabbed the lead in the modified feature race of a 30-lap distance. Bobby Herrington and Pierre Dagenais followed him as he took the second spot on Herrington on the seventh lap and was approaching on Vaillant. Dagenais was able to take the lead on lap 13 when Vaillant got caught in lap traffic. Dagenais was getting away from the field when the yellow came out for Ryan Foley. Dagenais had a good start with Joel Doiron now in third. Dagenais was getting away again from the drivers when Paul Pekkonen slowed in front of the grandstand and the yellow was out on lap 23. Dagenais stays in front with Doiron passing Vaillant for second and Laurent Ladouceur did the same thing and Vaillant is now fourth. Dagenais led the final laps to win his second feature of the year in front of Doiron, Ladouceur, Vaillant and Herrington completes the top 5. Doiron and Jessica Zemken won the heat races.

In the 15-lap Semi-Pro feature race, Mark Trudeau take the lead over the 18-car field with Sébastien Bigras and Guy Régimbald battles for the second place when the yellow comes out. On the same yellow, the leader has problems and has to go to the pits with Sébastien Bigras the new leader. On the restart, Regimbald leads the way with Bigras and Bruno Boivin chasing him when a big accident occurs in turn 4 with many cars involved such as Boivin who is point`s leader. Alexandre Gagnon is the new leader as he got a good start with Charles Galipeau in second followed by Jocelyn Ducharme but Ducharme was able to pass him. Gagnon led the final laps to win his first feature of the year followed by Ducharme and Bigras. Régimbald, Marc Lalonde and Alexandre Gagnon won the qualifying heats.

Denis Gauvreau took the lead in the 20-lap feature race as he dominated the feature from start to finish with Joey Ladouceur and Rock Aubin. A good race with only one yellow, Gauvreau had a perfect night as he won the qualifier.

Marco Raymond takes the lead in the 12-lap 4 cylinders feature with Martin Lagacé passing Raymond on the second lap when the yellow comes out. On the green, Lagacé is still in the lead when Martin Bernard passes him and takes a good lead. Lagacé goes too high, Gabriel Mercier and Jean-Marc Larose takes the opportunity to pass him when Lagacé has problems and the yellow comes out on lap 9. Bernard leads the ways and wins his third feature race in front of Jean-Marc Larose and Gabriel Mercier. Martin Lagacé had won the qualifying race.

Bobby Herrington grabbed the lead in the 30-lap feature followed by Brian McDonald and Gage Morin, Herrington and McDonald got a good lead over the field with Eric Gauvreau passing some cars from behind the field. Gauvreau and Jessica Zemken are battling hard for the fifth spot when Gage Morin heads to the pits as he was in third spot. Herrington is with the lapped cars and McDonald follows him closely when the first caution comes out on lap 22. McDonald gets a comfortable lead on the restart and he led the final 8 laps to win his first feature over Laurent Ladouceur, Joel Doiron finishes third followed by Pierre Dagenais and Jessica Zemken.

John Benard took the lead in the 15-lap feature race of May 30. Brian Rochon follows Benard closely. Bénard is able to keep his lead but Rochon is able to pass Bénard on lap 6 and leads the next 6 laps when Bruno Boivin stops and the yellow is brought out. Rochon gets a good start on the restart and his able to lead the final laps to win his first feature of the season over Brady and Marc Lalonde completes the podium.

In the 12-lap feature of May 30, Jean-Marc Larose take the lead but he`s followed closely by Martin Bernard but Larose keeps the lead during the first 8 laps when Alexandre Pilon brought the yellow. On the restart, Larose keeps the lead but has Marco Raymond on the backbumper. Larose was able to stay in front and wins his first feature of the year followed by Raymond and Martin Bernard in third.

In the 4-wheeler finals, Joey Péladeau won the 450 and less and Martin Bérard won the open class feature. More than 30 bicycles were present. These classes will be back on June 20 with the second of 4 legs of the Centre Sports Motorisé Series.

It was a good night of racing as the fans really got a good show for their money. A total of 16 races were held! Do not miss next week`s show as the Sportsman will make their only presence at the speedway for a special 25-lap feature race. A complete race program and a wet track enduro is also on the schedule which will be presented by Enseignes Multi-Graphique.
