15 Busses Take the Green
Brighton Speedway had 15 busses in the line up for the Lange and Fetter presentation of the Leon’s Trenton School Bus Races, on Saturday June 7th. The “standing room only” crowd was not disappointed as the decked out busses raced the 1/3 mile clay oval in pedal to the metal, gear grinding, dirt flying form. With only one bus having to be lifted from it’s side, the feature win went to Bob Green of Trenton, in his #8 traditional people transporter .
Also taking feature wins were #32 Doug O’Blenis of Shannonville, in the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified, Stacey Ferguson #1, of Picton, in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 and Andy Fletcher #42 of Brighton in his Quinte Towing Stinger. Although Fletcher held the black and white, he was ride-less following the feature as his car was claimed by another would be driver, a risk everyone in that class takes when they hit the track. For all of the details visit the website at www.brightonspeedway.com .
The only double winner of the night was Phil Potts #49, of Frankford in the Picture This Pure Stock Class. Potts was named the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week for winning both his qualifier and feature, and taking the first victory in the Northumberland Tire Triple Crown race one.
Following the heat of racing on Saturday Night was the Hotch’s Auto Parts 66 Mile Scrambler, 200 Lap Endurance Race on Sunday June 8th. 51 cars lined up for the first endurance green flag of the season. They drove hard, they drove fast and they continued to drive after mechanical difficulties, and bang-ups. Riding the lead and pulling through for the ride to Victory Lane was regular season racer and local favourite Charlie Sandercock of Trenton.
The next race event is the Vanderlaan’s Building Supplies presentation of the Southern Ontario Sprints. Making their second stop at Brighton Speedway on June 14th will add to the regular program, including race one of the Hotch’s Auto Parts Pro Stock Triple Crown. The Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modifieds will take a break from racing action. Green Flag flies at 7pm.
