Zemken shows the boys the way around again
BROCKVILLE-Four weeks, four very different track surfaces at Brockville Ontario Speedway, which has left drivers scratching their heads when it comes to dealing with the Beast of the East. However, Jessica Zemken went where no one was running in the 30 lap 358 Modified feature and captured her second win of 2008 and padding her lead atop the points standings in the process.
Zemken started 12th in the field and had worked her way up to fourth when the race passed the 20 lap mark, with most drivers opting to run a low groove all the way around the track. That's when the 23 year old decided there had to be a better way. Just after a restart while Danny O Brien and Ryan Poole were having a good tussle for the second spot, Zemken opted for a higher groove in turns 1 and 2 and blasted around the outside to move into second spot behind Adam Moore. Moore was the next victim as again Jessica pulled up alongside on the outside lane, claimed the top spot for good and went onto victory. Moore did a great job in holding off O Brien for second with Poole coming home fourth in his best run of the season so far. Bill Gill came through the field to round out the fast five.
It was the wily veteran against the upstart youngster in the 25 lap Sportsman feature. Former Track champ Randy Gaudet got past 15 year old Luke Whitteker just past the half way point and then withstood a spirited challenge in the closing laps from the talented 15 year old to claim his first win of 2008. Whitteker wasn't the only teenager turning heads this night as Dylan Evoy was third after being involved in a first lap 10 car melee in turn 2 that sent him to the very back of the pack. Adam Turner and Zeke McKeown were fourth and fifth respectively.
Both the Street Stocks and Rookies had new faces in victory lane as three race winning streaks for Steve Billings and Josh Kane came to an end. Dana Aikens led most of the way in capturing the 20 lap Street Stock main event with Bill Code and his trusty Nova in tow. Brian Billings, Derrick Eaton and Steve Billings were the next across the finish line. Gerry Oszczakiewicz making his first BOS start of 2008 cruised to an easy 16 lap win in the Rookie feature. Ron Day won the four car battle to finish in the second spot in front of Josh Kirkland, Chris Lloyd and Dwight Feltham. A two car battle highlighted the 12 lap Vintage car main as Bob Bodding picked up the victory holding off John McNamee at the flag. The Executive Taxi car claimed the special 20 lap Enduro to close the night.
Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action next Saturday and Sunday for a weekend twin bill. A regular race program including the always popular spectator bag race on June 14th at 7pm, followed on June 15th at 2pm by the annual Kanes Towing Fathers Day Enduro.
