Jessica Zemken writes history at Edelweiss Speedway

Cantley, PQ – Friday June 13, 2008 – Martin Bélanger – It was the fifth event of the season at Edelweiss Speedway and again a jam-packed night with a complete race program plus a 25-lap sportsman race, a wet track enduro and a demolition derby.

In the 30-lap feature race, Marc Therrien takes the lead but he`s followed closely by Bobby Herrington and Joel Doiron. Herrington passes Therrien in the backstretch and at the same time, Jessica Zemken passes Doiron for third on the fourth lap. Zemken passes Therrien for second when Pierre Dagenais and Joel Doiron got together on the fifth lap and the yellow comes out. Herrington and Zemken got each other a good start and Zemken takes the lead when there is a good battle for fourth place between Eric Gauvreau and Laurent Ladouceur. Gauvreau passes Morin on la 14 for third spot. Gauvreau and Ladouceur gives a good show for third and Ladouceur grabs the third on lap 21. Zemken dominates the feature with Ladouceur getting closely to Herrington and takes the second spot from him. Zemken led the final laps to win his first feature of her career at Edelweiss in front of Herrington, Ladouceur, Gauvreau and Morin. Morin and Herrington had won the heat races.

Shane Pecore dominated the 20-lap sportsman feature race. This class was making a return after a long absence; Pecore took the top spot on Peter Stapper on lap 5 and never was challenged. Stapper finished in second followed by Mike Mainse, Kenny Polite and Eric Joyce. Stapper had won the heat.

In the Semi-Pro, Mark Trudeau is the leader of the 16-car field when André Huot loses the control in front of the grandstand and the stops on lap 3. Trudeau has a good start and on the following lap, he loses control and many cars hits each other and the yellow is out on lap 4. Nico Leblanc is the new leader and takes a good lead when Richard Brady causes the yellow on lap 6. Leblanc stays in front of Bruno Boivin and Marc Lalonde when Trudeau and Alex Gagnon got together and Gagnon receives the black flag for rough riding. Nico Leblanc had a flat tire and loses the top spot to Bruno Boivin and the yellow is out on lap 10. Boivin keeps the lead with Brian Rochon who is really fast and takes the second over Boivin. Stéphane Carrière took the win at the flag stand over Boivin and Brian Rochon finishing in third. Boivin and Trudeau were the winners in the heats.

Alexandre Pilon took the lead in the 12-lap 4 cylindres feature race and led the first 5 laps when Gabriel Mercier passed him on lap 6 and the yellow comes out at the same time. Mercier loses two spots for rough riding and Pilon is now the leader. Pilon and Jean-Marc Larose exchange the lead and Larose takes the lead on the eight lap but Pilon stays close when Nicolas Malette stops on lap 10. Larose stayed in front on the restart and led the final 2 laps and won his second feature in row. Larose had also won the heat race.

In the 15-lap Mod-Lite feature, Wyatt Mullin took the early lead when on lap 5 the caution came out for Christian Pronovost. Mullin dominated the feature race as he had almost a half-track lead when Christian Pronovost spun out on lap 12. Wyatt Mullin led the final 3 laps and won his first feature of the season. Mullin had perfect night as he won the heat race.

A great night of racing again with a lot of action in every class, the 15-lap enduro race brought a lot of excitement with a few good crashes as Marcel Baron won the feature race and demolition derby was good as usual. Do not miss next week`s show as we will have a complete race program plus a Mod-Lite invitational and the Centre Sports Motorisé 4-wheeler race. A great show to attend.
