MID-WEEK SUMMER ACTION SIZZLES WITH HEAT WINNER BONUS MONEY FOR WINGATE CLASSIC AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (June 11, 2008) - Just as the summer weather continues to heat up, the 11th annual George Wingate Classic at Bridgeport Speedway on Tuesday, June 24 at 7:30 PM promises to be a scorcher. The headline event for this mid-week race will be a 40 lap feature for the Big Block Modifieds which will be race three of eight in the Bridgeport – New Egypt Modified Challenge Series.



A $4000 prize is on the line for the victor in this special race in honor of the Speedway’s famed promoter. In addition, South Jersey Overhead Doors is offering $125 for each winner in the heat races for the Big Block Modifieds.



Expected Big Block Modified participants include many of the Bridgeport Speedway stars, such as Jimmy Horton, Richie Pratt, Mike Iles, Wade Hendrickson, Jimmy Chester and Ryan Watt. Many invaders who are planning to compete include Duane Howard, Billy Pauch, Jeff Strunk, Keith Hoffman, Stewart Friesen, Mike Gular and Rick Laubach. After two races in the eight race series, Bridgeport Speedway regular Mike Iles is the current point leader with 224 points. Keith Hoffman sits in second place with 204 points, followed by Wade Hendrickson at 192. Jimmy Horton and Billy Pauch round the top five with 172 and 166 points respectively.



Also, a $1200-to-win 25 lap Open Sportsman event is on the agenda. Bridgeport Speedway personnel are looking to finalize plans for heat winners for this division and will announce them shortly.



Pit Gates will open at 4:30 PM, Grandstand Gates open at 5:00 PM, and the racing will commence at 7:30 PM. General Admission tickets are $20 for adults. Kids 12 and under are admitted for free. Pit Admission is $25 and no pit license is required.



Bridgeport Speedway provides a safe and secure family atmosphere, free parking, giveaways and fan participation games. Billed ‘The Fastest Dirt Track in the East’, Bridgeport Speedway is a banked 5/8th mile dirt oval, featuring a dirt 1/4 mile oval embedded in the center, and is located in Southern New Jersey -- just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at exit 14 off of I-295.
