Kenny Hammond of Speedsville NY capitalized on his front row starting spot to take home is first career AutoWorks of Ithaca Sportsmen feature win at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle NY. Hammond, a rookie in the division, jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green and ran away from the pack. While Hammond was hiding, Candor's Eddie White took to the high side of the speedway and made a charge to the front. From his sixth starting position White gradually picked off car after car when on lap 20 he moved past P.J. Goodwin to take over second place. But with only five laps to go there wasn't enough time to reel in the leader and White settled for second. P.J. Goodwin finished third with Gary Card Jr. fourth and Brian White crossing the line fifth.
Tom Eiklor of Barton NY passed Joe Miles on the third lap and opened up a big lead on his way to his second Hunt's Auto Service IMCA Modified feature win of the season. Chris Fleming pressed Eiklor in the early stages of the race but handling problems caused Fleming to fade as the race progressed. As Eiklor stretched his advantage Dave Barrows moved through the field getting by Miles on lap 9 to take second place.
At the halfway point Eiklor led with Barrows in second and Jerry Lobdell third. Five time feature winner Sean Lias had been bottled up in traffic and was running sixth. As the track surface started coming to him, Lias started moving through the pack. A caution on lap 13 caused Eiklor's big lead to evaporate and put Barrows on his back bumper with Jerry Lobdell third and Lias now running fourth.On lap 16 Lias slipped under Jerry Lobdell and set his sights on the leaders. But Barrows held off Lias for the final four laps and Eiklor took the win. Barrows finished second with Lias third, Lobdell fourth and Scott George fifth.
Afton's Kurt Decker notched his second win of the season in the Hunt's Auto Service Hurricane Street Stock feature event. Decker won easily in a race that was slowed by only one caution despite a 21 car starting line-up.
Ricky Marsh was the early race leader from his pole starting position. Decker grabbed the lead on the fifth lap just before the caution flew. During the caution period Marsh broke an axle and had to go pitside. On the restart Decker jumped out to a big lead over second place Bill Rampe.
Current point leader Mike Wilbur took his time working his way through the field before moving past Rampe on the 12th lap to take over second. Wilbur ran out of laps as Decker had built an insurmountable lead on his way to the win. Mike Morse finished third with Rampe crossing the line fourth and Clayton Ingraham fifth.
Nick Griest out dragged Bobby Edwards down the backstretch on lap three to take the lead and the win in the Road Bandit feature. Griest pulled away from the pack before picking up the win. Edwards finished second with Rich Gardner third, Ray Oakley fourth and Matt Tripp fifth.
Rick Frisco started on the outside of the front row for the Road Warrior main and never left the outside in cruising to the win. D.J. Pender finished second with Tommy Velez third, Jesse Velez fourth and Stan Wayman fifth.
Track Notes: Tammy Welch picked up the win in the Street Stock Powder Puff event. Great racing marked both the Sportsmen and the Hurricane Street Stock feature events with each racing having only one caution even with plenty of side by side racing.
