ROCCO LEONE TAKE MOD LITE MAIN AT UTICA - ROME SPEEDWAY BEFORE RAINS COME
VERNON, NY (June 15, 2008)- Off and on rain wreaked with this past Sunday’s race program at the Utica-Rome Speedway on Broedel Energy LLC and EverDry Roofing Night. Rain fell just as the race program was about to begin, causing about an hour delay, and then as the Pro Stocks were trying to complete the first lap of their feature, rain fell again. The Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club and ESDCA Mod Lites were able to complete their feature events.
Joe Gwilt rocketed to the lead from his outside front row starting spot in the 20 lap ESDCA Mod Lite feature event with fellow front row starter Tommy Felicia in tow. Third place starter Rocco Leone would catch Gwilt on lap nine as he made the pass for the lead. Leone would set the pace to the end as he took home the win followed by Lowell Zehr, Jeff Barker, Andrew Schartner, and Gwilt.
The Pro Stocks twice attempted to start their 20 lap main, but two incidents including a red flag would slow the event before the rains came again, ending the night’s program. The Pro Stocks will attempt the run their 20 lap main next Sunday June 22.
The 358-Modifieds and Pure Stocks will run their features on June 29 while the Sportsman will run their feature event on July 13.
This week, June 22, Triple B Welding and Steel Sales Inc present the CRSA Sprints, 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing at 5:30 p.m. For more information, log on to www.uticaromespeedway.com or call the speedway office at (315) 822-4557.
