Panunte, Wiley, Aube, Hogue, Knabb and Murphy Claim Father's Day
Feature
Wins on Zanchin Truck and Trailer Night at The New Humberstone
Speedway.
DTD (Dirt Track Digest) 360 Sprint Division made their second
appearance at
The New Humberstone Speedway on Zanchin Truck and Trailer Night. With
Zanchin himself starting in the outside pole position. Would the main
sponsor of the night walk away with the victory?? Not if Brad Knabb had
anything to say about it. Knabb was the early leader in the 20 lap
event.
Jason Pietz debuted a sharp looking machine in his 71jr sprint car,
only to
in lap 4 be involved in a caution, all was okay in the end and Pietz
continued to race. After the restart the 38 of Knabb jumped back into
he
lead and let the battle behind him to continue. The 99c of Nick Cupolo
having a good run, but looked like he was losing momentum as the 22 of
Jim
Porter, 7 of Jim Price, 69 of Rob Pietz and the 5D of Dave Dykstra was
gaining some bite in the track. Cupolo would eventually have to settle
for a
6th place finish. Knabb would gain another victory under his belt. Top
5
were Brad Knabb, Jim Porter, Jim Price, Rob Pietz, and Dave Dykstra.
(Heat
Winners were Rob Pietz and Jim Porter)
Adam Murphy managed to lead the Modified Lites Stars Championship
Tour (North Division) from lap two on for the 20 lap event; Murphy took
over
the lead from Paul Klager in the 1 car. But the 71 of Shawn Sliter and
the
15 of Adam Leslie were quickly catching up to the leaders but for now
fighting for the 3rd spot. Leslie was able to take the 2nd place spot
from
Klager sending him to 3rd. Jamie Gilbert had a scary moment on lap 12
when
he rolled his mod lite along the back stretch and into the infield.
Ontario
Motorsports Rescue was on hand to help Gilbert out of the car; he was
okay
after the incident. After the restart Murphy grabbed the leader
position
again, and drove away with the race. Top 5 were Adam Murphy, Shawn
Sliter,
Paul Klager, Adam Leslie and Jeff Johnson. (Heat Winners were Paul
Klager
and Adam Murphy)
As the Cosco Haulage Sportsman cars were coming onto the track General
Manager Bob Davidson knew this had to be a quick race. With lightening
descending on the track in the two prior races, he knew the storm was
going
to hit any minute. Greg Panunte who started in the outside pole
position
managed to lead the race from green to checker with him being so far
ahead,
the real action was happening behind him. The 3 of Jeff Leggett had to
fight
off a many of cars tonight all of whom wanted to take over the 2nd
place
spot. First it was the 99c of Nick Cupolo, than the 71 of Mike Bowman
who
was finding some awesome bite on the outside of the track... Bowman
would
eventually have to settle for the 3rd place spot and send the 99c of
Cupolo
to the 4th position. Top 5 were Greg Panunte, Jeff Leggett, Mike
Bowman,
Nick Cupolo, and Paul Gaboury. (Heat Winners were Jeff Leggett, Greg
Panunte
and Nick Cupolo)
In the Brian's Tire Repair Streetstock division the early leader was
the 55 of Vince Fargnoli, but Sheehan was right behind him and managed
to
take the lead on lap 2, leaving the 1J of Fontaine and Fargnoli to
battle
for 2nd place. Lap 5 still had the cars bunched up making for lots of
changes amongst the field. Jaren Israel involved in a bad caution on
lap 6,
when he spun out and another car hit in head on. Israel managed to come
out
okay of it and continued with the race. After the restart the M1 of
Brad
Sheehan took the reigns of the race only to have it taken away by
current
point's leader Bill Hogue in the 48H, leaving the 88 of Shayne Pierce
and
the M1 to fight for 2nd. In the end it was 48H for his 5th win of the
2008
season... Rick Beales in the 117 had a tough race, getting a flat tire
on
12, he tried to race a few laps but he to pull it in pits side for the
night. Top 5 were - Bill Hogue, Shayne Pierce, Brad Sheehan, Jason
Fontaine,
and Jaren Israel. (Heat Winners was Jason Fontaine)
The Niagara Auto Sales Pro 4 Truck Division was off to a scary start
when on
lap two the red flag came out for the 11g of Tyler Grove. It looked
that
Tyler was pushed a little too rough in corner 4, Grove than lost
control
going very quickly hit a ditch straight on, and rolled his truck on the
roof. Ontario Motorsports Rescue was on held immediately to assess the
situation and helped Grove out of the truck. Grove was okay and waved
to
fans as he was helped off the truck with help of the tow truck. The 64
of
Don Lessard was black flagged for the incident. After the restart the
32A of
Andy Imbeault was the early leader choosing the inside row, but the 5
of
Kevin Aube was on the other front starting spot. The 32A went a little
too
high in turn 4 and the veteran Aube scooped up the first place spot.
The 29
of Doug Banner was sitting pretty in the 3rd place position. The top 5
positions all sitting comfortable in their spots, just as the laps were
winding down it looked the K52 of Ed McNamara was gaining some momentum
and
was going to catch Banner, but Banner was able to hold onto the spot.
Aube
claimed his 2nd win of the 2008 season. Top 5 were Kevin Aube, Andy
Imbeault, Doug Banner, Ed McNamara and Rick Book. (Heat Winner was
Kevin
Aube)
It was an exciting 15 laps of Ministock action this past Sunday
evening, Rob
Goulding took the early lead off of the start until the 7w of Aaron
Wiley
chased the 116 down by lap 5 and took the lead from Goulding's rabbit.
The
71 of Garnet Wilson, 10 of James Small and the 17of Chris Laskey,
Small's
son David was pitting for Laskey, found themselves in a 3 way battle on
lap
6 for the 3rd place spot right behind Goulding sitting in 2nd. After a
restart bunched up the field the battle was between the 10s of James
Small
and the 116 of Rob Goulding. Wilson in the 71 just sitting back in
fourth
waiting for either Goulding or Small to make one mistake for him to
pounce
in the third position. In the end it was Aaron Wiley capturing the
victory,
and on victory lane Wiley took the time to thank sponsors and family
for
their help weekly on his racing machine. Top 5 Aaron Wiley, James
Small,
Garnet Wilson, Rob Goulding and Chris Laskey. (Heat Winners were Greg
Wilson
and Rob Goulding)
