ADAMS, MA - Who would have thought the first two winners of the DMC Racing Products Bubba Tanner Pro Stock Classic would go on to win the championship in the same year. That being said, everyone in the pro stock field at Lebanon Valley Speedway wants to win the third annual event this Saturday.
DMC Racing Products is presenting the event in honor of former Valley champion Bubba Tanner, who was one of the great Pro Stock competitors at the Speedway. Bubba was a hard-nosed driver with a colorful personality which made him a favorite whenever the 23B was in competition.
The Pro Stocks will be running for a winner's check of $500 in the 23-lap extra distance event. Last year's event saw eventual class champion Kevin Arnold make a late race pass on Rick Dempsey for the win, with the "Mellenville Missile," Robbie Speed getting by Dempsey for second. Rob Yetman won the inaugural event in 2006.
"Bubba was a good guy," said Arnold in Victory Lane. "He'd been around for a long time, it was a shame to see him go, but this was good for us. To win our first of the year on this night is special."
Arnold will be in action again in 2008 trying to defend his title, but a host of challengers will be beating and banging fenders, trying to capture the checkered flag in true "Bubba's style."
"This event has grown bigger then I could have imagined, "Bobby Chalmers, owner of DMC Racing Products said. "Last year we had some of Bubba's family make the trophy presentation with me in victory lane, so that made it even more special. The fans liked it, the drivers loved it, and the local media coverage of the event has been super. Everyone liked Bubba, so doing this type of event for him makes all of us at DMC proud."
The Pro Stock class is one of the most competitive events each Saturday at the Valley. Need proof, check out the results. Through five feature events in 2008, there hasn't been a repeat winner on the high banks. Winners include Jay Corbin, Paul LaRochelle, the father / son duo of Jay and Jason Casey, and most recently, the newest member of the Lebanon Valley Hall of Fame, veteran Jimmy Langenback.
Could one of them bring home the win, or will a new 2008 winner cross the line first. We'll have 23 laps to find out.
