Bandit Sprints return to Santa Maria.
Santa Maria, CA 6-18-08...Bandit Sprint Cars will be back on the track, at Santa Maria Speedway Saturday night, for the first time since May 24, joined by D&S Automotive IMCA Modifieds, Factory Stocks, and Mini Stocks.
*Peter Murphy, of Clovis, continues to lead the SMS Bandit championship point standings by 15 over Easton's Albert Pombo and by 26 over Visalia's Richard VanderWeerd. Jonathan Logan, of Hanford, is 43 points behind the leader, in fourth, and fifth place Rusty Carlile, of Bakersfield, is another 2 points back.
*Danny Lauer's lead in the Modified ranks has shrunk to just 2 points. The Santa Maria driver is trying to fend off Nipomo's Kenny Kirkpatrick. Third place Doug Thornton, of Santa Maria, is 16 markers in arrears and Santa Maria's Josh Vogt (-20) and Arroyo Grande's Chad Weber (-21) are separated by a single point in the fight for fourth.
*Two feature victories in-a-row have allowed Kirk Morgan to expand his lead over Michael Frazier to 43 points and his advantage over Glen Sparks to 55 in the Factory Stock division. The top-three are all from Santa Maria. Rounding out the top-five are: Kevin Linson (-57), Arroyo Grande; and, Tim Bennett (-59), Santa Maria.
*Justin Crockett, of Arroyo Grande, and Jeremy Heroux, of Nipomo, are tied for second place, 15 points behind Mini Stock point leader Justin Marsh, another Nipomo driver. Atascadero's Aaron Cervantes (-62) and Santa Barbara's Ben Caswell (-64) are fourth and fifth.
*Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. Saturday night, with qualifying at 5:15 p.m. and racing at 6:00 p.m. Tickets will cost $15.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors (65+), $5.00 for children 6 to 12, 5 and under free. SMS does not accept credit cards.
