The 25th Anniversary Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints Invade Western and Eastern Ontario This Weekend: $2,000 to win at Ohsweken, $2,500 to win at Cornwall.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Both ends of the province of Ontario will see the winged warriors of the 25th Anniversary Empire Super Sprints (ESS) as two more important stops on the SMAC Magazine Canadian Invasion tour will take place. This Friday night it’s to the Six Nations Reservation and the Ohsweken Speedway and then on Sunday it’s the eastern most part of Ontario to the Cornwall Motor Speedway.
It’s the lone full point stop at Canada’s sprint car capital and it will be a battle of the home turf. For the first time ever, 360 sprint cars are the main weekly attraction at Ohsweken and many of there stars will be in the field looking for the $2,000 top prize in the Arrow Express A-Main.
Track owner Glenn Styres will be behind the wheel of his mount along with teammate Keith Dempster, current point leader Jared Zimbardi, Fred Cade, who’s Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel is sponsoring the dash, Ryan Hunsinger and many others will be on hand. Also, a welcomed support by the Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS) will make for a large car count as Kevin Job, Warren Mahoney, Bob Crawford, Daryl Turford and others will carry the SOS banner in hopes for the checkered flag.
The ESS invasion will be lead by current point leader Steve Poirier, Canadian Invasion point leader Alain Bergeron, two-time champion Lance Yonge, Michael Parent, Justin Barger and others. The event will also be an important tune up as many ESS stars will return to the 3/8ths mile oval in September to run the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals.
On Sunday, it will be a history making event as ESS is proud to be a part of the first ever Triple Crown of Racing the winged machines will be side by side with the World of Outlaw Late Models and Cornwall’s own 358 modifieds. The special WestFront Construction A-Main carries a special purse of $2,500 to win, $1,500 for second and $350 just to take the green. It’s the largest A-Main winner’s purse ever offered for a full point show.
A special 730 Truck Stop Dash will also be part of the night’s events with the winner of the four lap event getting $200 from the $600 purse. Local favorite Brian McDonald will be there as well as teammate Lee Ladouceur, Jeff Cook, Tommy Wickham, Tim Kelly, Normand Beaudreault, Anthony Cain and the father daughter duo of Rick and April Wilson.
