Rich All Star Pay Day Could Go Higher
ROSSBURG, OH (June 20) – At $10,000 to win, Eldora Speedway’s final leg of the 26th annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek on Saturday night (June 28), is already an impressive pay day for the touring All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars, but it could potentially be higher. The highly anticipated week-long tour of the Buckeye state for winged Sprint Cars features a $50,000 bonus if one driver is able to capture four of the seven events that constitute Ohio Sprint Speedweek.
Dale Blaney nearly pulled off the fete in 2007 and is among the pre-entered drivers chasing the lofty goal again this year. Blaney kicked off the 2007 Speedweek with a victory on opening night at Attica Raceway Park, before yielding Monday night’s victory at Wayne County Speedway to Shane Stewart. Tuesday’s invasion of Waynesfield Motorsports Park was taken by Paul May, while Wednesday’s rain delayed action found Chad Blonde moving into victory lane at Hilltop Speedway before Blaney got back into rhythm with triumphs at Fremont Speedway (Thursday) and Limaland Motorsports Park (Friday) before rolling into Eldora.
As one of the more consistent All Star runners at Eldora, the pre-race buzz had him highly favored to capture the unprecedented bonus. Ed Lynch, Jr.; however, had other ideas and used the night to pick up his first-ever Eldora Sprint Car victory and spoil Blaney’s shot at an extra $50,000.
With that win, Lynch became the 40th different driver to have earned an All Star Sprint checkered flag in 126 races on the one-half mile clay oval. Blaney has three to his credit.
Eldora will again be the final leg of this year’s Speedweek tour; with the outcome of the six days prior playing a hand into any drama that could develop in the chase for a $50,000 bonus.
Joining the All Star Sprints in Saturday’s tripleheader program will be the Moser Modifieds and Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars.
