SPRINT CARS AND 358s JUNE 27 -- MITCH SMITH MEMORIAL JULY 4
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- Another open wheel double header is on tap at
Williams Grove Speedway on Friday evening, June 27, when sprint cars
powered by 410 c.i. and 358 c.i. engines will be on the card.
The first heat is scheduled to start at 8:00.
Fred Rahmer continues to lead the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass point
standings in the Grove's primary sprint car division while Pat Cannon
remains atop the Bass Pro Shops rankings for 358s.
This will be the final opportunity for the teams to fine tune their
410s before opening night of the 18th annual Pennsylvania Sprint Speed
Week sponsored by Cindy Rowe Auto Glass.
Speed Week includes eight nights of sprint car racing during a
nine-day period at seven regional speedways.
On Friday night, July 4, Williams Grove will host the Mitch Smith
Memorial, which has long been the crown jewel of Speed Week.
The 30-lap feature will pay $10,000 to win.
With time trials helping to determine the starting lineup for the
Mitch Smith Memorial, some of the area's better qualifiers must be
considered as possible winners of that prestigious event.
Williams Grove has run time trials on six occasions this year and
five different drivers have walked off with fast time awards.
Cody Darrah, 18, of Red Lion, set fast time twice - once in World
of Outlaws competition and most recently against the All Stars.
Although the Outlaw race was rained out following time trials, Darrah
proved he had the fastest car in competition before the rains came.
Alan Krimes turned the fastest lap of the season, a 16.570, in
Keystone Cup competition. Don Kreitz, Jr. was quickest for the Tommy
Classic and Greg Hodnett earned a World of Outlaws fast time award on
May 15. Fred Rahmer outqualified a strong field of 360s for the URC
Rislone championship on June 6.
Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 7:45 on July 4.
