Josh Richards wins the 50-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Feature Race at Cornwall Motor Speedway

Cornwall, On – Sunday, June 22, 2008 – Martin Bélanger - It was the big night at Cornwall Motor Speedway as it was the Triple Crown Night with the World of Outlaws in town for their first appearance in history along with the Empire Super Sprints and the mighty modifieds. The biggest crowd was also on hand to see the biggest names on the DIRTcar circuit.

Josh Richards and Shane Clanton led the field in the 50-lap WOO Late Model feature race as Clanton led the first one with Richards in second followed by Tim McCreadie. Clanton was already in traffic on lap 5 when the caution came out for Peter Mantha. Clanton took the green in the lead with McCreadie now in second after a good move on Richards. McCreadie was now closing in on Clanton. The leaders were back in traffic as McCreadie tried hard to pass Clanton. McCreadie used the outside lane to pass Clanton on lap 18 with Richards still following them. T-Mac was now in heavy traffic when caution came out on lap 23 for Tim Fuller. McCreadie got a good start on the following green and the top 5 at the halfway point was Tim McCreadie, Shane Clanton, Josh Richards, Rick Eckert and Darrell Lanigan. McCreadie started to build himself a comfortable lead, as Richards took second on Clanton on lap 31. Eckert and Lanigan were at it for fourth spot as Lanigan took it. Richards was closing in on McCreadie with 10 laps to go. McCreadie got caught in traffic and Richards took the lead from him but McCreadie was still with him. Richards was working really well in traffic with McCreadie and Clanton following him. Richards won the feature race over Tim McCreadie, Shane Clanton, Darrell Lanigan and Rick Eckert. What a show the World of Outlaws gave to the Cornwall fans! Tim Fuller, Shane Clanton and Darrell Lanigan had won the heat races.

Next in this spectacular night was the 25-lap feature race for the Empire Super Sprints as Ricky Wilson took the lead over Tim Kelly with Lance Yonge in third. Yonge was now in second and followed Wilson closely and he passed him using the inside lane on lap 6. Steve Poirier was trying to get third on Kelly as Wilson and Yonge were at it for first but Wilson got too high and Poirier and Kelly passed him when caution came out on lap 13. Yonge and Poirier got a really good start as Poirier took two laps to become the new leader with 15 down. Alain Bergeron made his way to third on lap 17 with Brian McDonald cracking the top 5. Poirier was getting away from everybody as he passed lapped cars. Poirier led the final laps to win his fourth feature on the 2008 ESS tour over Lance Yonge, Alain Bergeron, Tim Kelly and Brian McDonald completed the top 5. Poirier had a perfect night has he won the first heat, Alain Bergeron won the second and Lee Ladouceur the third.

Lance Willix took the early lead in the 30-lap modified feature race with Ron Valade and Perry Francis following him. Willix built himself a sizeable lead with 5 laps down. Terrance and Francis were now following Willix when Yan Bussière brought the caution on lap 9. Terrance took the lead on the restart over Willix with Francis in third followed by Alex Fortier and Kyle Dingwall in fifth. At the halfway point, Terrance had a complete stretch lead over Willix and Francis. Terrance was now into traffic cars with 12 laps to go as Dingwall got fourth over Fortier on lap 20. Dingwall was now in the mix for third as passed Francis and was on the back bumper of Willix as Terrance was alone in front. Pierre Dagenais cracked the top 5 in the final laps as Terrance won the feature race over Kyle Dingwall who made the pass on Willix in the final laps in the last laps. Alex Fortier, Laurent Ladouceur, Lance Willix and Carey Terrance won the heat races in the modifieds.

What a night of racing as all three classes made some wonderful racing for the biggest crowd in years. The World of Outlaws put on a show as they can do everywhere they go with some three wide racing everywhere on the track. The Empire Super Sprints and Modified also gave a heck of a show. This night was hot and will be hot again next week with the summer sizzler as the Green Mamba Jet Car will be here along with a complete race program plus a 25-lap feature race for Semi-Pro. Do not miss it!
