OESN TO PRESENT LUCAS OIL SHOOTOUT – PRATT LEADS
FIELD INTO SECOND EVENT AT MERRITTVILLE

THOROLD, Ontario (June 18) - When Ontario Environmental Safety Network presents Merrittville Speedway’s Lucas Oil Shootout for the Original Pizza Logs Sportsmen Division Saturday June 21st, the 50 lap Sportsmen Main Event will be a unique event.
“It continues to showcase our local drivers in a very unique way,” relates Merrittville GM Erica Bicknell, “while they race week in and week out all season for the most points … the Shootout once again will reward the driver with the least amount.”
Into the month of June at Merrittville, Tyler McPherson surged ahead of Joe Middlemiss after the two were tied for top spot. What’s unique though is that neither driver has yet to win at the Thorold track.
The pair are ahead of 35 other drivers with points – 6 of them who have earned wins - Brad Rouse, Mike Bowman, Chad Chevalier, James Friesen, Rob Knapp and the most recent – Justin Sharp.
“It gets even better with our qualifying heats,” adds (Merrittville Statistician) Fran Buschardt, “going into the Shootout … we have had 20 heats … and 18 different winners.”
And it doesn’t look much different at the other facilities set to host Lucas Oil Shootout Events that play host to the Sportsman on a weekly basis either.
While Rob Pratt won his 2nd of the year at Genesee Speedway to open the 2008 Lucas Oil Shootout June 14th – John Venuto and (2007 Merrittville Shootout Winner) Don Spatorico are the top two in points at the Batavia NY track. It must be something unique to Saturday Night tracks so far as both drivers haven’t visited victory lane yet either.
Friday Nights, James Friesen sits atop Ransomville’s points with a win ahead of Spatorico and Ryan Susice. Ironically both Spatorico and Susice haven’t scored a win at the Western New York track to date in 2008 as well.
Sunday nights, Rob Pratt is the only Humberstone regular to score two wins yet the Brockport NY drivers sits in second in points behind McPherson who leads yet only having a single win.
“Local race fans had never seen anything like it,” informs DirtTrackDigest.com’s Adam Ross, speculating, “as the Shootout unfolds … the points should be so close … local Dirt Racing is what we’re all about … we’re excited about what the third round could bring”
Last season, Don Spatorico won three of the 5 events but was one point shy of 2007 Champion and single race winner Chad Chevalier. Mike Bowman also won an event – a dramatic one that had him able to hold on to top spot at Ohsweken despite a flat tire.
