Plattsburgh, NY - - Since quitting while you’re ahead doesn’t really compute in stock car racing circles, the J&S Steel Sportsman will be back in action tomorrow (Saturday) on Adirondack Hardware Night at Airborne Speedway. Last week Ben Hough of Champlain won the first Sportsman event of his career in a photo finish over Jamy Begor of Mooers and prior track champion Toby Ebersole of Peru.
It wasn’t just that the trio finished inches apart – with Brian Criss and Shawn Duquette right behind - it was the fact that they raced that way for the entire 25-lap distance that had many Airborne fans calling it the best Sportsman race in a decade.
Despite all the excitement, Plattsburgh’s Bucko Branham (7th in the thriller) heads into Saturday’s event as the point leader. Branham leads Duquette 248-232.
This week’s card includes double features for the Monster Energy Bombers, an appearance by the Classic Cruisers Car Club and a burnout contest. Also in action, the Ernie’s Tools Modifieds, Versatile Trailer Sales Renegades and the NAPA Auto Parts of Keeseville Warriors.
Gates open at 4 p.m. Post time is 6 p.m. Admission is $10/adults, $3/kids 6-12, $20/family (2 adults, 2 kids), Kids age five and under admitted free.
