GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Scores Another Top Five Finish At Accord Speedway
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
While Mother Nature successfully halted the action at the Orange County Fair Speedway last Saturday night, the weekend was still a successful one for "The Statesman From Slate Hill" Jerry Higbie, as Higbie enjoyed another great run at the Accord Speedway. Higbie began his drive to the front from his fourteenth starting spot to record a fifth place finish in the 30-lap headliner for the Modifieds. The finish propelled Higbie into third place in the Modified points battle even though he does have some ground to make up to the frontrunners Andy Bachetti who is leading the points chase and the runner-up Rich Ricci Jr who is going after his eleventh Accord Title in 2008.
Higbie drove another exciting race at Accord as he tested the real estate high and low and found his way to the front even though the racing action at mid-pack was thick with talented drivers attempting to accomplish the same thing. Early on in the event, Higbie could use his Big Block power when he could find the lane that would move him forward.
Picking off cars throughout the event, Higbie moved into fourth place at one point in the race when he used a power move in three and four to sail by Tom Demarmels. Higbie then set his sights on Mike Ricci who was a enjoying a third place run. Higbie pulled closer to Ricci for the next two laps but jumped the cushion in turn four and something went wrong with the car after that. Demarmels slipped back by Higbie for fourth and the race wound down with Andy Bachetti scoring his second win of the season. Rich Rici Jr was second with hnenjoyed his best weekend of the 2008 racing season as he drove to a Big Block win at Orange County in the Team Shaver numbered 47 Modified and also captured the 358 Mike Ricci third, Tom Demarmels fourth and Higbie completing the top five.
This week will find the Higbie Racing Team once again heading to Accord for the Friday action and then back to Orange County Fair Speedway for the weekly Saturday night racing action. Higbie is hoping for another solid weekend of racing to keep pace with the top racers in the divisions he is racing. A nice story regarding Jerry Higbie was part of last week's "Accord Accordian" weekly racing program.
Higbie's aggressive 2008 racing schedule will find him in the thick of the action as he prepares for his runs at the Accord Speedway and Orange County Fair Speedway Championships this year. Higbie will also be challenging for the ROC title. For the Accord and ROC events, Higbie will race the family owned signature numbered 97 cars and for his assault on OCFS and select WRG Series Races, Higbie will once again strap himself into the Team Shaver numbered 47 equipment as the Shaver Team will have two Big Block cars for Higbie to steer. Sponsorship for the Teams comes from a great group of loyal sponsors who have supported Higbie throughout his successful racing career. Mid-City Transit, Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing and BadaBing Pizza have all lent their support to the 97 cars, and Beaverkill Trout Hatchery, Superior Building Supply and Woodburne Lawn & Garden lend their support to the Shaver Team. In addition to his Big Block rides, Higbie will be slipping behind the belts of the Affordable Transmission numbered 17 for a run at the 358 Small Block title at OCFS.
Jerry Higbie Racing would like to thank the entire racing community for their support and well wishes as the team prepares for a great season in racing this year.
