BOBBY VARIN RACING NEWS

Sharon Springs, NY- Bobby Varin's Late Race Charge Secures Runner-up Finish At Fonda; Danny Varin Scores 12th Place Run At Fonda
by Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

The famous Fonda Fairgrounds has a long history of famous racing battles at the legendary facility and last Saturday night proved to be no exception to the rule as New York Modified star Bobby Varin was caught up in traffic in the early stages of the 30-lap Modified main but once he was able to break free of the traffic, raced through the pack like gangbusters. Varin, a former three time track champion at Fonda, fell one spot short in his quest to record another win at the speedway. The track seemed slippery throughout the night's racing action and some of the drivers were having trouble finding the correct racing lanes to work their racing machines forward. One such incident had Donnie Corellis and current track Champion Matt DeLorenzo getting together on lap thirteen with both cars ending up in the fourth turn fencing and both damaged beyond repair to continue on.

Ronnie Johnson was one of the few drivers who had no problems in hustling his car to the point as Johnson had the lead by lap-9 from his 12th starting position in the event. Bobby Varin started 11th in the feature and for the first few laps couldn't make headway in the stacked pack of racers. Finally, Varin was able to shake himself to the outside of the raceway and began to make headway through the field. Very few cautions and a tough raceway to pass on made the feature event a difficult task for the drivers to show their best stuff, but Varin was "Classic Varin" as he began his assault to the front of the field. Varin was fifth by the end of the 12th lap and worked to move into fourth place a couple of laps later. Varin moved up to 3rd place on lap-17 as he shot by one car and a lap later moved into second as he slid by Tony Peppicelli. By this time Johnson had a cammanding lead but Varin chased him down and fell a bit short when the checkered flag fell. Ronnie Johnson was in for the win with Varin second, Pat Ward was third, Dave Camara fourth and Peppicelli rounding out the top five.

The updated Modified points show Bobby Varin leading the way with 340 and Pat Ward nipping at his heels with 336. Ronnie Johnson is currently third with 308 markers and Dave Camara is fourth with 294 points. Jack Johnson rounds out the top five with 286 points. Ryan Odasz and Matt Delorenzo round out the top seven point leaders at the speedway. Modified rookie talent Danny Varin is currently sitting in 17th in the Modified points battle. In the Go-Green points battle that has another event this coming weekend, Bobby Varin is sitting in 5th place in the points chase and Danny Varin is currently ranked in 12th place. Matt Delorenzo is leading the points for the Go-Green series.

Danny Varin was cautious throughout the Modifed feature. The Modified rookie began the event from 13th starting place and advance but one finish throughout the 30-laps to record a 12th place finish in the final rundown.

This coming week the Varin family will return to the Fonda Speedway for the Saturday night racing action and Bobby will again tackle Utica Rome on Sunday night. Bobby will slide behind the belts of the familiar Nancy and Jake Spraker numbered 1J Bicknell Chassis/JPM Powered machine as he hopes to add another notch to his racing resume. His son Danny will return to action aboard the Ed Monger owned Magarus sponsored numbered 93 as the youngster sets his sights on winning the Rookie of the Year honors at the speedway in the Modified division. Bobby continues to steer the Dave Cruickshank owned Dover Brake Sponsored numbered 00 at Utica Rome.

It is hoped the long awaited powerplant for the Chuck Tibbitts owned number-18 will soon be ready for the racing action at Utica Rome, giving Danny two nights of racing as well.

Bobby and Danny Varin would like to thank all of their sponsors and fans for their strong support with their racing efforts and hope for continued support during the 2008 racing season. More updates will follow for the Varin Racing team efforts.
