Travis McClelland Wins His Career First Late Model Feature at SSP on Saturday Night; Diehl Also Wins His Career First in the Street Stocks



Newberrytown, PA (June 21, 2008) – The A.R.C.H. (Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown) Fan Club Night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday, June 21, Travis McClelland of Westminister, Maryland picked up his first career feature win in the 20-lap Late Model feature event. Also picking up their career first Street Stock feature win was Lewisberry’s Gregory Diehl. Wes Alleman of Newville won the make-up Street Stock feature event postponed from May 17. Dover ’s Matt Wampler came from the rear after and early caution to pick up his first Xtreme Stock Car victory in the feature. John Stoll Jr. of Wellsville won the 20-lap Four Cylinder Stock Car feature. Jeff Gamble of Enola won both the make-up and regularly scheduled PENNMAR Vintage Car features.



Travis McClelland wired the field from the front row to pick up his career first victory in the 20-lap Late Model main event. An event slowed only by a lap 3 caution for a tow car spin, found Sterling Kinard finishing in second, followed by Jake Jones in third. Jones started in the ninth position. Finishing fourth and fifth respectively were John Moser Jr. and eleventh place starter Bud Witmer. Qualifying heat races were won by Kinard, Gary Potts and McClelland.



Jim Rost Sr. led the first two circuits of the 20-lap Street Stock feature event. On the third lap, Gregory Diehl grabbed the lead. Diehl, an ex-motorcycle racer, went on to collect his career first Street Stock win. Todd Bowersox came from seventh to finish second. Paul Morgan finished third from a ninth place start. George Eash finished fourth and Scott Thunberg came home in fifth. Eash and Diehl won their respective qualifying heat races.



In the make-up Street Stock feature event, Wes Alleman took the lead from early pacesetter Jimmy Slaseman on lap 15 and went on to record his third win of the season. Slaseman finished a career best on second, followed by Steven Dove, Eric Walker and Scott Thunberg.



In an exciting 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event, Travis Horan took the early lead from the pole position and led the first twelve circuits. Adam Smith got by Horan on the 13th lap and led until a caution was shown on the next lap. In the meantime, Matt Wampler came all the way from the rear after being involved in a lap 6 caution to pursue Smith. On the restart Wampler grabbed the lead and kept control the rest of the race to pick up the win. Tim Hahn finished a season best second place followed by Rich Lomman in third. Larry Landis and Donnie Broderick rounded out the top five. Matt Adams and Travis Horan won the XSC qualifying heat races.



John Stoll Jr. picked up his career win number 99 after a one year drought from victory lane in the Four Cylinder Stock Cars. Stoll took the lead from Jason Smith on the 13th lap. Smith finished second, followed by Henry Lesher, Jason Geesaman and Ronnie Buck. Buck and Smith won the Four Cylinder Stock Car qualifying heat races.



Jeff Gamble picked up two PENNMAR Vintage Car Club feature event victories. The first victory came in the make-up feature postponed from May 17. Tom Swanger and Paul Bacchus finished second and third in the feature. Gamble was the Modified division winner and Fred Thompson won the Sportsman class.



Gamble also won the regularly scheduled PENNMAR feature with a last lap pass of Larry Felty to take the win. Paul Bacchus finished third. Fred Thompson was the first Sportsman division driver to take the checkered flag.



Stock Car Saturday Night racing action returns on Saturday, June 28, with Kid’s Box Car Racing as well as the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars and Mini Vans. There will also be a make-up Late Model feature from the postponed May 17 race event. Racing action begins at 7:00 p.m. with the make-up Late Model feature event. Pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday Night Test & Tune Up Next at SSP on June 25





The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be on June 25. It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. The fuel pumps fro Miller’s Racing Parts will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open free to the public. The main concession stand will also be open throughout the night. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits.
