Weedsport, NY – June 22, 2008 – By Dan Kapuscinski, Canandaigua Speedway PR and Promotions Coordinator

It had been nearly two years since the defending Rite Aid 200 Champion had visited victory lane at Canandaigua Speedway. Saturday night though, with an inside pass on Vinnie Vitale on lap-25, Vic Coffey returned to the promised land at the ‘Land of Legends’ recording his 17th Big-Block Modified win at the Finger Lakes oval.

Coffey’s win was worth $1,500 on Home Necessities Night at the Races, and served as a perfect warm-up to the World of Outlaws Late Model Series event coming up on Tuesday, June 24th.

“This new Troyer ran great tonight and I just tried to pass as many cars on restarts as I could because that is the easiest time to pass out there,” said Coffey in victory lane. “Hopefully we can keep this going on Tuesday night for the Outlaws race here.”

Despite starting scratch due to the change to a back-up car Steve Paine managed a fine second place run, followed by Gary Tomkins, Vitale, and Dave Rauscher in the top five. Contender Matt Sheppard had a rough night all around finishing in the 19th position in the no. 9s.

Todd Henderson picked up his second DIRTcar Sportsman Modified main event win of the season Saturday night. The no. 18h took the lead from Loren Lincoln on lap-5 and never looked back on his way to victory. Dan Wiesner, Lincoln, Kevin Ridley, and Nick Guererri finished the top five runners.

Tim Devendorf in the ESDCA Mod Lites, Chris Guererri in the PureStox, and Adam Depuy in the UMP Street Stocks also picked up main event wins Saturday night.

Doug Rose’s Green Mamba Jet Car also thrilled fans during intermissions and at the end of the evening. The Mamba filled the air with smoke, flames, and vibrating sound as it completely melted a mini-van in the Speedway infield.

Tuesday night the World of Outlaws Late Model Series makes its first visit to Canandaigua Speedway. Time trials begin at 6:30pm with racing kicking-off at 7pm. Watch the Outlaws take on local Big-Block heroes Vic Coffey, Tim McCreadie, Tim Fuller, Billy Decker, and Danny Johnson.
