ESS EXTRA!!

Can-Am Motorsports Park, LaFargeville, N.Y.

After a very long and successful rein by the Thurston family (since 1975, built in ’74) and three solid years with businessman John Wight, the Caprara Bros. Billy and Charlie have taken over the fast 4/10ths. in the North Country. The Bros. that own several car dealerships have always had a liking with motorsports and moved their love into owning of the dirt oval. With Chip Burdick handling all the day by day duties the track is in good hands.

Can-Am has had a long history of hosting small block modifieds throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s with hall of famers Marcel LaFrance, Doug Carlyle, Dave Heaslip along with many top heroes such as Pat and Danny O’Brien, Rick Wilson, Laurent Ladouceur and others that have called Can-Am home.

Since 2003, the big blocks have roamed these parts with some of the best in Billy Decker, Pat Ward, Gary Tomkins and others that have made the popular oval their home track at one time or another.

This season, the night of July 5th will be a special one as the Lucas Oil backed series for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) will be side by side with the big blocks and both events will be $2,000 to win making for not only fireworks in the air but on the track. ESS has brought in some of Can-Am’s biggest crowds and on this night it should be no different.

Local favorites in the field will be Jeff Cook as well as Wilson himself and daughter April. Kingston, Ontario’s Justin Harris will have many fans on hand and don’t be surprised if you see a track regular picking up a ride in a winged machine.

Can-Am is very wide and racy, many grooves will be used and don’t be surprised if you see the sprints “flat-foot” it around the entire track. A large bleacher section stretches the entire length of the long front stretch and with the infield clear it offers a good view no matter where you sit. Pits are located off turn four and behind the bleachers. Can-Am also showcases one of the largest VIP towers of any track with every room filled on every night.
