Mercer, PA.When drivers in the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars, Tire Express Modifieds, McElwain Motors FASTRAK Late Models, Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites, and the M&D Paving Mini Stocks hit the track this Saturday at Mercer Raceway Park they'll be racing on approximately 600 tons of new clay laid down earlier this week.
"Frank Benic, Wayne Sheets, and the rest of our track crew do a great job preparing the track," acknowledged 10th year owner Vicki Emig. "This year has been especially tough fighting the rain every night, but week in and week out the racers praise Frank and the crew for preparing one of the best surfaces in the region. The clay level was getting down so this will give the track crew more clay to work with when they prepare the track- especially in the turns as it will bring back some of the banking and in some spots add a foot to the surface."
Along with the five divisions of racing action, a spectacular fireworks presentation will take place after sunset as part of American Patriot Night presented by Walt's of Mercer Plaza. All Butler County residents, veterans with ID, and scouts in uniform will be admitted free. Butler County Night is presented by McClymonds Supply & Transit and Armstrong.
Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. and grandstands at 4:30, hot laps are at 6:15, and racing begins at 7. Adult admission is $11. Students 6-15 are $5. Children five and under are always free. The family pass, which admits mom, dad, and up to four kids 6-15, is $25. Pit passes are $25.
Mercer Raceway Park is located minutes from both Interstate 79 and 80 just off Route 19 on Fairground Road in Mercer, Pa. Dirt track racing and quality family entertainment are presented weekly late March through early October. The office in New Bedford, Pa. is open year-round late mornings and after 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
