CELEBRATE OLD TIME RACING AT ORANGE COUNTY FAIR SPEEDWAY



MIDDLETOWN, NY (June 27)……..Take a trip back into the past as Orange County Fair Speedway celebrates its glorious racing history on Nostalgia Night, Saturday, July 12. In addition to the full racing card of Modified, Sportsman, Pro Stock and Pure Stock competition, Orange County welcomes the Nor the ast Vintage Modifieds, the Atlantic Coast Old Timers (ACOT), and many driving greats from the Hard Clay track’s long racing history.



Orange County Fair Speedway is among the country’s oldest automobile race tracks, tracing its history back to the early years of the 20th Century. Weekly stock car racing began in 1950, and has continued uninterrupted ever since. Over the years and decades, many of the country’s most notable drivers have raced at the Middletown fairgrounds track.



This is a perfect opportunity for older fans to relive some great racing moments, and for younger ones to learn the heritage and history of American dirt track racing. The vintage cars will be on display, many will take to the track for exhibition runs and races, and the veteran drivers will be available for autographs and interviews.



Among the drivers returning to Orange County are former Modified champions Frankie Schneider, Sonny Strupp, Carl Van Horn, and Buzzie Reutimann. Sportsman champions expected include Stan Sherman, Russ Meyer, Robbie Green, and Jeff Scaccio.



“The list of drivers and car owners coming back gets longer each day. We’re really looking forward to a great night of racing and visiting with all the folks who’ve made Orange County Fair Speedway such a special place,” said competition director Doug Dulgarian.



O the r drivers who’ve indicated the y’ll be on hand include Tighe Scott, Johnny Strupp, Sam Rogers Sr., Sam Rogers, Jr., Eddie D’Angelo, Ron Goodrich, Bob Dini, Charlie Shire, and Joe Romer Jr.



Also Tom Hager, Bill Penny, Ken Wismer Jr., Eddie Haenelt, Bruce Quinn, Jackie Dubois, and car owner Rich Maranelli.



Also Bob Schmidt, Rich Kolka, Ed Davis, Eddie Yonker, Nick Illobre, George Van Der Wall , Ed Stevens, Johnny Yannone, and Greg Chelak



Active “senior” drivers Rich Eurich and Bill Wilson will also take part in the activities. Eurich is a former Sportsman and three-time Modified champion, while Wilson has driven Modifieds at Orange County beginning with the first Eastern States race in 1962.



Co-sponsors for the evening include Collier Motor Car Co. and Autopart International.



Gates open at 4:00 p.m. Racing begins at 6:00 p.m.
